I really like this. Tastes of coffee, a little smoke, all with an undercurrent of a sweet flavor that it’s driving me nuts that I can’t place which grows toward the end. Bitter aftertaste like strong black coffee.

(From notes 17 Oct, 2012) Bottle. Compact brown head (small bubbles). Pitch black beer. Aroma is smokey, malty and chocolate. Flavor adds coffee to this. Smooth on the palate; hardly any carbonation. Finish is bitter and burnt.

Wish I had more than a handful of adjectives to describe porters and some stouts. Anyway, Nogne/Terrapin Imperial Rye Porter combines the "typical" characteristics of a stronger porter into a great whole. Very enjoyable beer!

Bottled at SBWF. Near black, small head. Aroma of whisky and tobacco. Sweet with near full body and rounded mouthfeel. Milk chocolate flavours well melted together with tobacco, earth and whisky. Warming really bitter finish. Packed with flavours, without getting too obnoxious. Really well made!

Bottle from circle liquors. Pours black with a nice brown head that dissipates quickly leaving a film of uneven bubbles on top. The aroma seems to have some lactose, some cocoa, and a little smoke.. not much of the rye here. The taste has chocolate, coffee, nd the rye spice hits on the finish. This is absolutely awesome and has a great balance of sweet and spice.

Black with a very thin tan head. Aroma is dark chocolate with some coffee and a hint of vanilla. Flavor is strong chocolate with a nice roasted coffee backbone and a hint of rye in the finish. Mouthfeel is slightly sticky sweet though it finishes dry. Excellent collaboration.

Bottle: Batch 761: Blackish brown pour, black beer in the glass, medium vast nutty brown head, disappears slow and leaves a thin brown lacing on top of a black colored beer. Smell light espresso/coffee notes with some liquorice and liquorice wood notes, toasted to light roasted malts/grass/leaves/barleys. Taste liquorice, roasted malts, malty bitterness, some hops and hop bitterness, roasted bitterness and light roasted coffee notes, hint of mocha, some roasted caramel. Aftertaste grass, bitter, light liquorice, (roasted) hay. Low carbo, soft thicker mouthfeel, medium to full body and a creamy light oily texture. Very nice but not excellent.

Deep, dark brown/black pour with a smaller brown head. Aroma is dark fruits, some coffee, chocolate and spicy hops. Taste is some mocha, chocolate, sweet caramel, spicy/sour from the rye, roasted malts, earthy hops. Overall, it was ok, but not a great brew due to the fact that the rye just didn’t work perfectly for me in the finish.
