Bottle thx to joes. Pitch black, opaque colour with a quickly gone light brown head. Smells coffee, roasty, dark chocolate. Mostly coffee and mocca. Tastes coffee, mocca, dark chocolate. Very silky, smooth, velvet and thick feel. Low carbo, full body.

500mL bottle, pours a very dark brown / black with a medium tan head. Aroma of cocoa powder, oats, rye and light roasted - the rye and cocoa are most prominent. Flavour brings out the rye above anything, with secondary notes of baker’s chocolate, some coffee and medium roasted malt. Full-bodied, very soft palate, with very harsh rye on the finish. Could be confused for a harsh black IPA, though the rye is in place of the hops. Quite solid, though harsh.

Draught at Pikkulintu, Helsinki, Finland. Black colour with small dark tan head. Roasted malt, sugary sweetness, ashy dryness and alcohol in aroma. Flavour is sweet alcohol, roasted malt, bitter hops, potato starch and mild ashy dryness. Thick and rich palate. Good one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(Draught at Pikkulintu, 20120804) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had roasted malts, liquorice and rye bread. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were roasted malts, hops, rye bread, molasses and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. Nice, balanced and alcohol was well hidden.

500ml bottle. Black color. Thin brown head. Fades to minimal. Some dots of lace. Some sediment at the bottom of the glass. Good lighter crisp carbonation. Big smooth chewy body, more dry finish. Great texture. Good bitter sweet chocolate flavor. Nice and roasty. Some dark chocolate. Not sure if I’d have noticed the rye if it wasn’t on the label, but I do think there is a nice presence of toasty rye malts in here, it’s subtle but tasty. Slight hint of raspberry, too? I’m a fan. All I’ve had from Terrapin so far is the Wake-N-Bake, but this is up to snuff with that.

This beer was the last sample to be served on a tour at the Nøgne Ø brewery, and the many subtleties of this one probably escaped my tired palate. However, I did pick up notes of chocolate and coffee in the aroma and these were found in the flavours as well. Good bitter finish. The mouthfeel is absolutely incredible, it’s silky smooth and full bodied. Good stuff, but I desperately want to re-rate this one properly.

Copenhagen Beer Festival, May 2012. Black with a small off-white head. Malty aroma with chocolate, a fine touch of coffee and a fruity note. Sweet and full bodied dark malty flavour with lots of chocolate and a citrus hoppy finish

Medium dark brown head. Opaque black body. Alcoholic fruity banana aroma with licorice, earth and chocolate notes. Dry-sweet perfumy strawberry and banana taste with roasty chocolatey notes. Full-bodied. Mild, soft, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish-sweet roasty grainy fruity aftertaste with perfumy licorice notes. Nice. Scarily drinkable. Interesting and different, too. (0.5l bottle, Grünerløkka Bryghus, Oslo.)
