Bottle. Deep brown pour with dense tan coloured head. Chocolate dominates the nose with some alcohol and roasted grain. Flavours are amazing. Silky smooth with heaps of cocoa sweetness and just enough roasted grain on the finish to balance. Slick full mouthfeel. Brilliant stuff. Really enjoyed this one.

Une bouteille de 50 cl. Meilleure avant le 22/03/2016. Une bière complètement dominée par les ténèbres. Une coiffe diaboliquement brune et très solide. Un nez percé par des malts qui portent, outre la richesse d’un caramel très foncé et cette douce sensation épicée, une fumée latente avec des noix concassées, une réglisse fruitée et des houblons qui murmurent des choses vertes et peut-être aussi jaunes. Sur les papilles, la concoction expose toute sa gentillesse avec ses saveurs de grains rôtis, caramélisés et chocolatés. Une apparition houblonnée vient secouer toute cette contribution maltée. En bouche, le liquide présente un corps de moyenne densité avec un pétillement doux et une texture crémeuse. En finale, des malts qui se resserent et qui perdent une fumée dans cette avancée houblonnée et amère. Encore une réussite signée Nogne O.

0,5L bottle. Black pour, thin dark brown foam. Aroma of licorice, charred malts, Irish Coffee, dark chocolate, unsweetened cocoa. Heavy boozy nose. Very heavy bodied, oily texture. Smooth mouthfeel, creamy, soft dryness. Tastes of chocolate, some sweet (not salty) soy sauce, roast, light char, a little rye spice, ash. Goes down like a slow made toffee with cream. Very soft. Perfect balance, so residual\cloying sweetness. ABV is hidden, although it is throughout the aroma. Finishes with a nutty licorice character with some pine hops in the end. Damn, how do these guys do it?? (3631)

Bouteille de 50cl meilleure avant le 22/03/16. Bière brune presque noire avec une mousse brune crémeuse. Le liquide est épais. Superbe nez de malt chocolat, de noix et de levure fruité. La bouche a une belle texture huileuse, ferme avec une bonne amertume. Agréable, longue, superbe. J’aurais envie d’écrire des lignes et des lignes mais la bière m’appelle. Un autre grand classique de Nogne.

Rastacouere (6166) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 3, 2013
A smallish off-white head covers the dark brown, not quite black pour. Slick looking, oily, spicy, earthy aroma with moderate spicy, resinous hop notes and plenty of dark malts intricacies, including grenoble nut powder, woodsy smoke and dark chocolate amidst other. Deep yet not overly invasive alcohol brings as much sweetness as the malts themselves. It makes for a dry ensemble and a fairly original one, the rye certainly providing a nice touch in that regard and turning the focus away from what could have been astringency; those dark malts are taking a lot of room, but maintain an oiliness and a smoke focus that fit together nicely. Not extremely complex, but posting plenty of different flavors in a round and seducive fashion we are not used to seeing together and hence flavorful and captivating. Very nice recipe and indeed a sound concept to bring Terrapin and Nogne O in the same brew room.

(50 cl bottle from Den Nordiske Ølhandel; Batch 808/818B; BBD: June 6th 2016; Brewed on June 5th 2012) Pours black with thick, creamy tan head. Good retention and beautiful lacework. Aroma is subtly bready with toffee and rye notes and a hint of alcohol and herbal hops. Creamy texture, soft carbonation, full body and a roasted, warming finish. Taste generally follows the nose. Rustic but quite well balanced and pleasant. A much better experience than years ago when I ended up paying upwards of 20 USD for a bottle of Nøgne Ø beer at Aker Brygge that turned out to gush a third of its contents on the table in front of me.

Pours dark brown to black with beige head. Smells of vanilla and chocolate with some coffee notes. Good stuff, but if possible, I would go for the regular Imperial Stout from Nøgne Ø.

UPDATED: APR 20, 2013 Pours almost black with a medium beige head. Very good taste of roasted malt, rye, licorice and coffee, but not too intense. Long good aftertaste. Body is above medium.
