In short: A very sweet and highly roasted black ale with spiciness and moderately rye presence. If you have a sweet tooth.
How: Bottle 500ml, consumed 2.5 year before expiration date.
The look: Brown-black body topped by a medium tan head with medium retention.
In long: Nose is burnt cereals, a certain spiciness (no specific spice), some rye, some smoky notes reminiscent of smoked almonds. Nice mouthfeel with a full body that is lighten up by an active lively carbonation. Taste is on the sweet side. Lots of husky grainy burnt malts, a slice of rye bread, a lot of residual sugars, roasted nuts, chocolate cake icing, a peppery-ish spiciness, a sip from an cup of old cold coffee. Sweeter and heavier than expected from a 9% porter. The massive sweetness finds opposition in a astringent bitterness coming froth the high roasted level. Just too sweet for me, very low drinkability here. A well made beer that just didn’t work for me, doesn’t score very high on my hedonistic scale. I’m rating this one against the grain, and now people will think I’m joking around on ratebeer but truth is ratebeer is my serious account, my ridiculous one is my bank account.

Ok, I may not be the right guy to rate this beer because I’m not a porter guy. Nose is complex with woods and alcool. A fait amount of bitterness is expected here as well wich you loose at tasting. The liquid os dark and opaque. The foamy head is really what I prefer from this beer. In my opinion this beer has nothing from a porter in termes of taste and palate. The whole thing smells and taste like beer added with rye.

This Porter is like a piece of coffee chocolate in your mouth. It’s quite expensive yet wore every penny you spent

Bottle, Ship in a Bottle, West Kirby. Black pour with a small tan head. Nose had some roasted malt, rye, chocolate, molasses and burnt toast. Fullish mouthfeel. Flavour was similarly roasty with some spice, and dark fruit alongside some hop bitterness. Pretty satisfying and a decent collaboration.

2014-10-09. Black body with a nice brown head that fades. 3+ Aroma is fairly alcoholic up front. Some dark malt. Flavour is fairly bitter, pleasantly so. Good amount of hops? Light spicey touch might be the rye as per the name but I don’t immediately identify it as such. Lingering alcohol has a lightly herbal quality to it. Average plus bodied palate, modest carbonation . 3+ Solid, it grows on me. Bottle via trade with Duffman
