Our 100th batch, brewed for the enjoyment of the brewers, but popular demand forced us to release it commercially. Most enjoyable in a comfortable chair in front of a roaring fire.

Recommended serving temperature 16°C/61°F Ingredients: Maris Otter, wheat, and chocolate malt; Columbus, Chinook, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23,5°P, 80 IBU, 10% ABV.

Editor’s note: Even though the label says "Barley Wine" in the States, the brewery usually says it’s brewed to be an IIPA. The American label was supposedly a glitch. In Europe it’s sold as an IIPA. But to save the admin crew some time dealing with user feedback, it’s listed as a Barley Wine.

Amazing dark amber color with large head. Lots of hops and sweet malts at the same time in the aroma. Taste is hoppy at first, then chocolate-like, with a good bitter finish and a warming boozy feeling which goes into a barley wine. Little carbonation, very smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Superb Imperial IPA!

aroma is hop forward...similar hop profile to Alaskan, but hoppier. aroma is more hops than malt, but well balanced. pours dark and a little murky. flavor is still hop forward, but a good amount of chocolate malt makes for a tasty treat. a touch thin, but very smooth, with a lingering dry bitter finish."

Niecaly rok od rozlewu. Generalnie ubogie w aromat i smak, stonowane. Likierowa tekstura. Nie jest z?e, ale spodziewa?em si? wi?cej po tym barley wine. Przypomina mocn? ip? z ulecia?ym smakiem.

Pours a dark brown, nearly black color, with a dense, medium broad head, leaving a thin, froth lacing. Smells of scorched toast, raisins, toffee and molasse with brown sugar and wooden hints, almost a little smoked with a whiff of spices. The nose then gets completed by flowery, slightly fruity hops, which are standing out against the sweeter part of the brew in a pleasant, notable way. Has a supersoft, smooth beginning with bready malts, joined by toffee and molasse. Turns really sweet, but not in an unpleasant, dull, sugary way, due to an earthy, almost oaken malt quality, which keeps the balance intact. Floral hops blend well into the already established taste, by adding hints of tropical fruits with a gentle bitterness to them. Finishes sweet, with almost no hops left, then turning very coffeish bitter all at the sudden with a medical, syrupy note, leaving slick, bitter notes on the palate for a longer while. Has a complex, medium- to full-bodied character with lower carbonation, leading to a very enjoyable, smooth, rich mouthfeel.

pours murky light brown-reddish with a small light beige head, some retention and lacing. spicy and sweet toasted caramel, loads of pine, resin and mint, peppery booze - lots, some underlying red fruitiness, burnt nuts with a touch of smoke, grass. light carbonation, medium body - oily and quite thick, harsh boozy spicy-resinous-citrusy-piney finish. C’s overdose. still rough, even after sitting for 2 years..

The body is dark brown, near black and came with a small light tan head. The head settles to a small ring of foam in no time. This ring makes for some nice lacing at the top of the glass. As I drink it becomes slick and slides right down the glass. I get some nice deep spicy citrus and mild pine hop notes over what seems like a pumped up Brown Ale or Porter like bass. This malt is roasty with notes of caramel and coffee. Big roasted malt character and solid hop bitterness blend well together on the palate. It’s full and smooth with a very mellow touch of alcohol. This is well hidden for a big 10% beer. Toasty and mildly sweet malty caramel notes slowly gives way to deep spicy/citrusy hop flavor and bitterness with a touch of leafy herb and pine as well. Hop bitterness slowly fades of the tongue deep into the finish.

The aroma is intimidating, forewarning a heavy brew. But the taste is not that heavy after all. Rich, but not too much. Sweet, malt, rye (even though there isn’t any), dried fruits, hops.

500ml bottle @ the 8th Shrewsbury Bottle Share, brought by myself, plucked from Clutch’s end-of-tour grot box. Pours dark brown with off-white head. A big bold genre-straddling CDA, blending pine, malts and citrus flavours with a touch of honey sweetness creeping in. An excellent, attention-grabbing beer.

Pours ruby with a nice head. Aroma: very hoppy, malty and caramel notes. Taste: pretty sweet and heavy (typically for a barley wine), great hoppy bitterness makes the taste more lively. Palate: warming and hoppy. A great barley wine.
