Our 100th batch, brewed for the enjoyment of the brewers, but popular demand forced us to release it commercially. Most enjoyable in a comfortable chair in front of a roaring fire.

Recommended serving temperature 16°C/61°F Ingredients: Maris Otter, wheat, and chocolate malt; Columbus, Chinook, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23,5°P, 80 IBU, 10% ABV.

Editor’s note: Even though the label says "Barley Wine" in the States, the brewery usually says it’s brewed to be an IIPA. The American label was supposedly a glitch. In Europe it’s sold as an IIPA. But to save the admin crew some time dealing with user feedback, it’s listed as a Barley Wine.

50cl (brygget 11/14), courtesy of bastarda @impuritylaw’s hosted Cellarclearing 2, I/2016, merci. - Thick layers of ginger-spiced medicinal bitter orange in aroma announce where this Barley Wine is headed: taking British restraint to a US boisterous recipe and landing at a boiled-down Norwegian essence. Very well rounded body gives the aromas a lozenge presence in flavour: bitter orange and ginger candy on a honey base, hop resins adding a drying medicinal dimension. No burn whatsoever - quite classy brew - just not one I would crave regularly.

Bottle from Sedona. They claim it's been aged for about two years. Pours murky brown with a small beige head. Aroma of smoked peat, pine, citrus, caramel malts, earth. Taste is smoke, licorice, rubber, pine, earth, dominated by heavy but tasteful licorice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

shared with bartlebier, impuritylaw and Oldmanriver. A complex, delicious Barleywine/IIPA/whatever. Aromas of strong malts, cotton candy, ripe oranges, bitter chocolate and Erfrischungsstäbchen Zitrone, more orange, especially orange marmelade in taste, with creme-brulee-topping-like dark caramel notes with a marshmallow finish. Thoroughly well-done with no alcohol burn at all at 10% abv. Wow.

Dark brown to almost black colored, hazy, small non lasting beige head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, some chocolate, bit orange hard candy, fruity, citrus, bit resin. Taste is medium+ sweet toffee, lots of chocolate, some caramel, fruity, citrus, moderate resin hoppiness, medium bitterness, dry finish with bitter chocolate and hoppy lasting aftertaste, some alcohol and warmth. Full bodied, soft carbonation, sticky and bit resiny. (bottle, Bierhalle Deconinck, Vichte)

Bottle. Cloudy brown, beige head. Aroma dark chocolate, sourdough, vanilla. Taste bitter-sour-sweet, faintly medicinal, but not in an unpleasant sense, hints of pickled vegetables. A hoppy finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

No way this is an iipa... Easily an American barleywine! Pours a dark amber with a frothy tan head. Aroma of of rich caramel, grapefruit, cherries, dark dried fruits and light alcohol. Taste is much the same bit a nice bitterness and sweetness to round out the profile. Great beer!

Pours a dark brown, with a foamy tan head. Great aroma of sweet boozy malt, and a hop backbone. The initial flavour is sweet barley wine, but a heavy hop bill cuts through this. Great beer for my 1000th rate!
