COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our 100th batch, brewed for the enjoyment of the brewers, but popular demand forced us to release it commercially. Most enjoyable in a comfortable chair in front of a roaring fire.

Recommended serving temperature 16°C/61°F Ingredients: Maris Otter, wheat, and chocolate malt; Columbus, Chinook, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23,5°P, 80 IBU, 10% ABV.

Editor’s note: Even though the label says "Barley Wine" in the States, the brewery usually says it’s brewed to be an IIPA. The American label was supposedly a glitch. In Europe it’s sold as an IIPA. But to save the admin crew some time dealing with user feedback, it’s listed as a Barley Wine.

Bottle from the LCBO. Dark chestnut-brown body with copper highlights and a slight haze. Thin tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma has a helluvalot of hop action going on, with orange peel and pine making themselves known, but there’s also a load of malt in there as well, bringing notes of cocoa and toffee and raisin and cooked plum. Flavour is a similar combination of bitter and sweet, and quite complex - along with the notes promised by the aroma, there are hints of anise, vanilla, sour cherry, spruce tip, and a lovely sour woodiness hanging around the edges in the finish. Like others, I’d say that it leans more towards being a barley wine than an IIPA, but regardless of how it’s classified, it’s pretty damn awesome. (Update: I entered this review when about halfway through the bottle, and rated it 3.9. Have edited my numbers twice while finishing it, bumping it up each time. As it warms, it gets better and better. Verging on outstanding...)

Chestnut brown color with cream-coloured head. Hoppy aroma of grapefruit and pine needles. Taste is very influenced by the hops. As a result, more bitter than a Barley Wine is normal.

Pours brown with a small head, lots of floating yeast chunks. Nose shows pine needles, spicy hops, heavy sweet malt, reminiscent of malt extract. Also some burnt sugar. Pretty similar flavours, massive amounts of sweet malt with some toasty notes backed by heaps of piny and spicy hops.

This is a great beer. Poured from a bottle. Doesn’t taste like a barley, more like a ipa. Tart finish.

Aroma of whiskey and grain. Cloudy brown color with an off white well laced head. Taste of whiskey and grain with a full body and a mildly phenolic finish.

Thick malts, Christmassy, brown ale like but heavier on the alcohol and hops. Rih taste, heat, sharp ending. Expected more freshness. On the other hand, it is a very long lasting beer. You can sip this for a night. Sharing is the key...(50cl bottle from Saveur Bière)

Bottle. Opaque ruby red with a moderately lasting off white head. Aroma of toffee, nut, orange peel, some spice, red fruits, pine. Taste is of toffee, orange, pine, honey, hint of spice, red fruit, strawberry, cherry, some heat from the alcohol on the finish. Really smooth, full bodied with a slightly sticky mouthfeel. Lovely.
