Our 100th batch, brewed for the enjoyment of the brewers, but popular demand forced us to release it commercially. Most enjoyable in a comfortable chair in front of a roaring fire.

Recommended serving temperature 16°C/61°F Ingredients: Maris Otter, wheat, and chocolate malt; Columbus, Chinook, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23,5°P, 80 IBU, 10% ABV.

Editor’s note: Even though the label says "Barley Wine" in the States, the brewery usually says it’s brewed to be an IIPA. The American label was supposedly a glitch. In Europe it’s sold as an IIPA. But to save the admin crew some time dealing with user feedback, it’s listed as a Barley Wine.

650ml bottle from LCBO. Served in a tulip. Pours an opaque black with a tiny white head that dissipated quickly. Aroma: Interesting mix of both malt and hops, notes of grapes, nuts, hints of chocolate. Palate: thick bodied but not too syrupy, smooth, fizzy, slightly drying finish. Taste: sweet start, slightly bitter finish. Really nice and really well balanced.

One of their better beers. Complex aroma of sweet malt, honey and floral hops. Copperish color with a slight cloudiness and nice thin head. Crisp and somewhat heavy palate as to be expected. It finished quite dry. Nice blend of strong flavors that were evened by the carbonation. Hop bitter finish precluded by sweet malts and alcohol. Caramel and wood notes as well. Very tasty.

Beige dense 2-finger plus head, spangled laceworks, dark brown body with red tones, hazy I think. Scents of fruity hops, dusty malts, leather and hints of raspberries. Tastes dark roasted malts, chocolate hops, soup of fermented berries. Slightly flourish on palate, half dry, smoothly carbonated. Finishes with roasted malts, chocolate notes, leaves, hops, peels of berries. Overall as an imperial IPA.

Bottled. A very tasty barley wine style beer. Malty aroma with sweet fruits. Color is typical barley wine dark brown. Taste is a good blend of sweet malt and hops with hidden deceptive alcohol. Long lasting hoppy finish with a side taste of alcohol and malt. Bravo!

500ml Flasche.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines; consumed to toast Leicester City’s promotion to the Premier League so it had better be good: opaque dark almost black with slight crimson tint. Delicious aroma of suet pudding, liquorice, honey, cough medicine. Taste is initially bitter - a nice surprise for a barley wine - with dark chocolate, malt and a superb bitter/sweet balance. Tastes like a barley wine/IPA crossbreed and smooth as you like and a hint of smoke in the slight bitter finish. Outstanding.

Some hops perhaps, fermented grains, fruit sweetness. Intense taste, fruity sweetness, some tart notes, strong but not exaggerated bitterness.

500 no bottle from trade (thanks a lot gunnar). Dark red to black color with a nice beige head. Aromas of floral hops and caramel. Taste was not so nice and balanced, especially with the yeast inside. Caramel, some bread, maybe some floral hops and yeast. Aftertaste was bitter and long, with syrupy mouthfeel. Medium to full body with medium carbonation. A nice beer but the yeast was too much for me.

Keg Half Pint at White Horse European Beer Festival 2012, Parsons Green, London in Aug 2012 - Very Dark Reddish Brown in colour. Very Malty; lots of roasty malts, dark chocolate, coffee, caramel. Fruity; dried fruits and grapefruit citrus. Hoppy; considerable resiny hop bitterness. Yeasty. Alcohol very evident. Sweet bitter roasty malty and fruity hoppy throughout. Lovely IIPA or Barley Wine or almost an Impy Stout!
