COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Andhrimnir is the chef of the Æsir and einherjat in Norse Mythology. Every day in Valhalla, he slaughters the beast Sæhrímnir and cooks it in Eldhrimnir, his cauldron. It is also the winner of Norwegian national championship for homebrewers. We at Nøgne Ø want to make this great barley wine available commercially, so beer drinkers will have an opportunity to experience the best Norwegian homebrew. Though made in Nøgne Ø brewery, this beer was brewed by its creator, Gahr Smith-Gahrsen. Ingredients: Grimstad water, malted barley, hops, yeast. 65 IBU.

Shared bottle at Bjorleik, Bergen. Courtesy of Tor Ivar Lyse. Wow! What a barley wine. Really well balanced and rich aromas and flavors. Aged a couple of years. Will brew a clone of this recipe. One of the best barley wines I’ve tried, smooth alcohol.

Thin head which dissipates quickly. Powerful and scrumptious aroma with lots of sweet malts, toffee, raisins, butterscotch and some wood overtones. Cloudy dark mahagony brown. Sweet and delicious flavor with lots of caramel, toffee, oak and a bit of resinous hops. Full flavored, complex and silky smooth in the mouth. Noticable alcohol presence and warming. Finishes sweet and malty with a nice alcohol tang. A brew that I have really enjoyed drinking! Need to find me some more of these.

Bottle. Pours a hazy amber with a creamy beigh head. Sweetish aroma of caramel, brown sugar, toffee and alcohol. Flavor was very sweet and warming with toffee, caramel, dark fruit, brown sugar, vanilla, and raisins with a medium to full body and had a dry and bitter finish.

500ml bottle to snifter. Pours caramel cola color with a quick tight foamy khaki head that leaves a wispy film. Aroma has soft sweet caramel malt and muted dull hops.Taste is faded booze sweet toasted malt which leaves caramel characteristics and a dulled hop flavor with a spice/pepper finish. Palate is full slick and drying with a warming finish. I like it, even though it is a bit dusty.

Amber with off white head - aroma of malts and some dark fruits - tastes of sweet malts, some dark fruits - the sweety malt continues into a lingering finfish - this was very nice

Poured from a 500 ml bottle into a mini snifter. Pours a dark copper to amber color with a persistent sheet of beige foam constantly atop the beer. The aroma has great dark fruit complexities to it, with hints of raisin, plum, and prunes. Taste is hearty dark sweetness. This is a fine beer, that’s for certain. Too bad it’s now retired.

500ml bottle, batch 435, bottled 18/6/09, best by 18/6/14. Mostly clear darker red color. Good thin khaki head, some loose lace. Very nice smooth creamy texture, lighter carbonation. Dark fruit, vinous grapes, chocolate malts, spicy hops. Moderate bitterness, light bite. Slightly viscous finish. Overall, a very enjoyable and interesting barleywine.

50 cl bottle @ Gastropub Nordic, Tampere.

Pours hazy amber color with a small head. Aroma of hops, caramel, ripe fruits, some mild alcohol burn and nutty notes. Flavor of ripe fruits, caramel, some toffee, alcohol and malts. The alcohol comes through a bit too much, otherwise decent.
