500ml bottle. Clear red glimmering darkest brown with huge stable frothy lacing tan head. Huge head gives only way to dry and slightly grassy hoppy aroma - no underlying malt notes detectable. Taste is grassy, dry, minimally soapy and sourish on a weak malt basis. So-so.

Cloudy brown color, hints of red with a thin, tan head. Strong aroma that is intensely earthy with caramel balancing and a nice overlay of milk chocolate...sounds nice does’nt it. Unfortunately as it warms it shows a lot of rubber band-like aromas that are akin to dead yeast cells similar to what is found in the aroma of Greene Kings beer these days. Flavor is not as good as the aroma. There is a distractijng winyness that undoes the palate. The aroma components are there but are overshadowed by the wine-like character and the thin, almost unsubstancial body. This is light, spicy, and quite flavorful for a beer of just over 4% ABV but the rubber-like, dead yeast cell really gains prominence as it warms. This probably should not have been shipped to the US. It is too small of a beer to make the trip. Overall points are high for what it could be.

Bottle @ SOPP, Helsinki. Dark brown/red, small beige head. Good toasted aroma, not too strong though. Tart, dry roastyness in the palate. A bit abrupt finish.

500ml bottle. (SOPP2007, Helsinki) Dark Brown, almost black. Light creamy head. Odd aroma - lager malt maybe, slightly chemical. As it warms the roasted malt comes through. Tastes quite malty and has a nice sticky dense bitterness. Not sour enough to be a real brown ale, IMHO. A bit watery. Has a strange finihs - like freshly-sharpenned pencils - wood and graphite!

This was not my favorite offering from Nogne. The roasted, smoky malt flavors were a bit too strong. However, it was extremely smooth and creamy on the palate.
