COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

In short: A relatively heavy (for a 6% beer) nutty brown ale.
How: Bottle 500ml. Consumed relatively fresh a few weeks after receiving through private importation, a little more than 3 years before expiration date!!! A 6% brown ale with a 3+ years shelf time?!?!?
The look: Mostly clear dark brown body topped by a small beige head
In long: A bit of a gusher. Nose of tobacco leafs, toasted hazelnuts and some toffee. Taste has a lot of grainy malts, cookies, caramel, oily hazelnuts, commercial milk chocolate bar, creamy earthy toffee, chewing tobacco. Oily mouthfeel. That beer packs quite a hefty malted body for a 6% brew. Carbonation was a bit too much at first but I let the beer sit for 15 minutes and then it was fine. Overall this was a fine nourishing brown ale even if a bit on the oily side of things. Another decent beer. So many decent beers out there to drink. Too little time to drink them all. What would Jesus do I’m asking you, what would Jesus do? Probably try to feed the fish of my computer screen saver.

allmyvinyl (6066) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - NOV 9, 2013
500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours dark reddish-tinged brown, no head. Aromas of chocolate malt, cereal and iron. Taste has chocolate and coffee, decent balance of bitter and sweet. Medium body, slick texture, short finish. Not the most exciting beer they’ve ever done, but solid enough.

4oz pour at Max’s Rare and Obscure Beer Week Part 4. Pours a hazy, amber brown with a thin, white head. Nose is lightly sweet, a little sweaty. Flavor is herbal, lightly sweet, lightly malty, not at all sour. Medium bodied, lightly sweet finish. Exceptionally bland from start to finish.

Bottle. Dark color, quite thick tan head. The aroma I would say was pretty mild, "Belgian" spices, yeast, some fruitiness, and "wood". The taste was also quite mild, some sweetness, malt and spices. Medium body and carbonation. Nuts and burnt tones in the finish. Ok beer but not the most memorable experience.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2014 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.0%. Very dark brown colour, like a porter. Nice and creamy beige head. Moderate but nice aroma of belgian ale yeast, spices and oak. The flavour has brown malts, caramel, brown sugar, moderate spices and woody notes, decent hops in the finish. Not too sweet. This is in no way Nøgne Øs biggest beer, but it is nice and drinkable and impossible to dislike.
