Pours deep murky red with small white head. Aroma is blackcurrant, wine and some spice. Juice palate. Aftertaste is dry, floral and very fruity blackcurrant. Overall: blackcurrant juice. Well hidden alcohol.

The Tiger Tripel is one of my favourite tripels (at least the batches that are not too smoky), so a cassis version should be an interesting experience! It pours a deep red body with a small, light pink head that leaves foam on the glass and that ends up as a partially covering film. Rather strong aroma of black currants, with hints of Belgian yeast and light malt. The flavour is also quite strong, and again the black currant is in front, but to my surprise it’s acidic and tart. Also vague notes of Belgian yeast, cherry pits, raspberries and white sugar in the back. Moderate sweet and moderate acidic taste with a moderate to light bitter finish. Full body, oily texture, far too soft carbonation and it all ends up quite dry. The black currants definitely makes this a completely different beer than the original tripel. Not a better beer, but different.

Bottle at Cafe Sara, april 15th 2014. Dark red body, small white head. Malty aroma with blackcurrant, citrusy hops. Taste is lightly spiced yeast, more blackcurrant, mild funky, heavy malty, spiced finish with berries. Quite nice.

Bottle. A hazy dark amber beer, with a small, frothy, mostly diminishing off-white head. The atom aid lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly yeasty (earth), with a strong note of blackcurrant, other notes of sugar, lemon/citrus, touch of wood. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Medium to full body, velvety/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, pretty long finish with almost moderate bitterness, moderately alcoholic. Here there’s not much left of a Tripel, but after the initial shock, some nice aromas can be found. Still, it doesn’t stand out as one of the best product from this fine brewery. Rather a nice experiment.

Sample at Bergen Ølfestival 2014. Dark red with a small white head. Aroma and taste of blackcurrants, light fruit, some wood and notes of malt. Pleasantly sour and really refreshing. Some warming alcohol in the finish. I liked this one!

Takes a few sips to adjust to the taste, but it gets better and better. Wonderful smell and colour.
