Smallish dirtyish beige head. Clear deep dark red body. Earthy vaguely fruity aroma with mealy notes. Not really that much aroma. Sweet earthy blueberry taste with herbal lingonberry notes. Mid-to-full body. Mild, soft, mealy mouthfeel, with some heat. Dryish earthy wooden blueberry taste with spicy toffee notes. Interesting and different. Not sure I can see the trippel in it. Didn’t like it at first, but it grew on me. (0.5l bottle, from wine monopoly, Vika, Oslo.)

Bottle (50cl) from Vinmonopolet (Vika), Oslo. Half-inch, short-lived offwhite head, leaves an uneven bubbly film. Rusty ruby colour, slightly hazy. Aroma of sour cherries, raspberries, blackcurrant, oak, yeast. Medium body, soft carbonation, refreshing mouthfeel. Taste is fruity and somewhat boozy with a good sweetness/tartness balance. Tongue-drying finish with alcohol-infused cherries/blackcurrants.

The Tiger Tripel is one of my favourite tripels (at least the batches that are not too smoky), so a cassis version should be an interesting experience! It pours a deep red body with a small, light pink head that leaves foam on the glass and that ends up as a partially covering film. Rather strong aroma of black currants, with hints of Belgian yeast and light malt. The flavour is also quite strong, and again the black currant is in front, but to my surprise it’s acidic and tart. Also vague notes of Belgian yeast, cherry pits, raspberries and white sugar in the back. Moderate sweet and moderate acidic taste with a moderate to light bitter finish. Full body, oily texture, far too soft carbonation and it all ends up quite dry. The black currants definitely makes this a completely different beer than the original tripel. Not a better beer, but different.
