Commercial Description:
This is our first edition of Dark Horizon. It is the first, for us anyway. There will be more to follow, and even though they will be other editions, they will still be firsts. “Let’s go crazy!” said Tore. The last time he said that, we created #100, which proved to be a success. How could I not agree to his suggestion? “How crazy can we be?” I responded. “Go all the way!” he answered. So we started off with a beefed up Imperial Stout, extra dark and extra bitter, not much to it really, but maybe a bit over the top. When this brew had fermented, we gathered again on a sunny Saturday morning, ready for next move. Half a ton of demerara sugars and our homemade extract of coffee were waiting for us. Standing there with sticky sugars all over the brewery and us, I just couldn’t resist asking Tore: “Don’t you have better things to do during week ends?” To this point he still hasn’t answered me. After adding a hefty volume of wine yeast, we left this brew to itself for month. A good month, that was.

This is ale; it is also a wine, and a coffee drink. We’ve been playful and brewed a hybrid. Do yourself and your friends a favour and share this bottle with those you deem worthy. Dark Horizon is indeed a global brew. Inspiration from the US Midwest, malt from England, bottles from Germany, name from Japan, sugars from Mauritius, hops from the Pacific rim, Yeast from Canada, coffee from Colombia, brewed in Grimstad, Norway.

All bottles of Dark Horizon are numbered with its unique number, and all together we launched 6000 of this brew.

37 P, 75 IBU, 16% ABV.

A privilged gift from Mes. Good work there mate. The beer of crazy drunken gods. Rich and heavy but smooth. And gets you away with a mixer. I feel smarter and more attractive by the sip. It’s trong obviously but you’d never guess 16%. Great beer, I’d have this over and over if I could get it easier. Madness in a bottle.

Rating #400!!! Bottle 1795 acquired via trade with acrdz...thanks Mike!!! Wow...an extremely aggressive, high-octane version of an Imperial Stout. Pitch black with a cocoa colored head that stuck with the beer but left just a syrupy coating on the inside of the glass. Aroma was pungent chocolate, toffee, toasted malt, licorice, and alcohol. The flavor was almost eye watering...strong Starbucks notes, bitter Godiva chocolate, black licorice, and dark fruit. Put a flame to my lips and I would surely ignite. Drop this from warplanes, disinfect an open wound, or fill up your car...this is some powerful stuff!!! Good but not as balanced and drinkable as others in the class.

Bottle at Chris_O’s 19th April 2008 tasting. Pours black with a line of tan head. Rich, malty, woody aroma, with lots of apparent alcohol (just look at the strength!) In the mouth, it’s completely full on - hefty malts, liquorice, dark fruits, musty old socks, coffee, chocolate, warming alcohol. The palate is full yet smooth. Very much an uncompromising brew. Superb.

An old rating i finally got to entering. Poured dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma was really chocolatey and malty. A lot of alcohol in the nose and finish overall.

50cl bottle from Vinmonopolet. It poured a dark black colour with a medium creamy brown head. The aroma smells of alchohol, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla and sugar. The flavor is thick, complex and tastes of coffee, brown sugar, alchohol and licorice. You can feel the beer "growing" in your mouth. The aftertaste is suprisingly short. It was shared with a good friend to commemorate the death of George Carlin.

Bomber poured a translucent brownish black with a small disapating brown head. Aromas of coffee, brown sugar, cherry, fig, bitter chocolate, alcohol and hints of licorice and vanilla. Palate was medium bodied smooth and warming. Flavors of coffee, roasted malt, bitter chocolate, cherry, date, fig, alcohol and hints of licorice and vanilla with a smooth warming lingering sweet finish.
A good big beer and proof that countries besides the good ol USA can make hot sticky sweet beers!

Pours an abysmal black body with a dark brown-gray head. Thick thick body with a nose of spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, and hops. Tangy, roasty, chocolaty, and rich as hell. Finished with port and coffee-toffee. This beer costs a fortune, but it is almost worth it!
