Commercial Description:
This is our first edition of Dark Horizon. It is the first, for us anyway. There will be more to follow, and even though they will be other editions, they will still be firsts. “Let’s go crazy!” said Tore. The last time he said that, we created #100, which proved to be a success. How could I not agree to his suggestion? “How crazy can we be?” I responded. “Go all the way!” he answered. So we started off with a beefed up Imperial Stout, extra dark and extra bitter, not much to it really, but maybe a bit over the top. When this brew had fermented, we gathered again on a sunny Saturday morning, ready for next move. Half a ton of demerara sugars and our homemade extract of coffee were waiting for us. Standing there with sticky sugars all over the brewery and us, I just couldn’t resist asking Tore: “Don’t you have better things to do during week ends?” To this point he still hasn’t answered me. After adding a hefty volume of wine yeast, we left this brew to itself for month. A good month, that was.

This is ale; it is also a wine, and a coffee drink. We’ve been playful and brewed a hybrid. Do yourself and your friends a favour and share this bottle with those you deem worthy. Dark Horizon is indeed a global brew. Inspiration from the US Midwest, malt from England, bottles from Germany, name from Japan, sugars from Mauritius, hops from the Pacific rim, Yeast from Canada, coffee from Colombia, brewed in Grimstad, Norway.

All bottles of Dark Horizon are numbered with its unique number, and all together we launched 6000 of this brew.

37 P, 75 IBU, 16% ABV.

Bottle #02965, shared by maniac. Thanks! This stuff is freakin’ amazing. Chocolate brown color with light head. To my knowledge I don’t have synesthesia, but the first word that came to mind when I smelled this was dark. It has a dark aroma. Also, prunes, toffee and alcohol. Taste is malty as all hell. Toffee, brown sugar, caramel. Alcohol is very noticeable in the beer, but it blends perfectly. Amazing stuff.

Dark black body with a small creamy light brown head. Coffee, roast, rum soaked fruit and caramel aroma. Huge roast flavor, light caramel, more rum soaked fruit. Full body with moderately low carbonation.

Expensive bottle during Max’s 72 Hour Belgian Beer Fest. Number was #01316. Used-oil black pour. Aroma is dark roasted malts, booze, vanilla, and molasses. Very strong! Taste is very similar - lots of roasted malts, woody notes, booze, vanilla, molasses dark fruits and coffee. Body is slick and very warming. Very booze-like. Soft carbonation. Ends with more alcohol, dark roasted malts, vanilla, molasses, coffee and wood. Very big and very nice! YUMMY!

Bottle courtesy of bu11zeye, many thanks Markus! Pours a pitch black color with a thin light brown head. Solid aroma of coffee, roasted malt and chocolate. Very good flavor of coffee, mint, chocolate, the roasted malt is round and rich, but not to the point of being decadent, there’s mild bitterness in the end. The body is medium with a liquorous texture and moderate carbonation, the pleasant texture and thickness add to the tasting experience. I like this brewery a lot and the same goes for this beer.

This is an amazing beer! It’s like wine wow. The aroma is full of alcohol, figs, raisens kind of Belgium inspired. The flavor is amazing the first zip is full of alcohol leaving you warm. It’s so complex so it’s very difficult to explain the flavor it’s just overwelming, but here we go: full of caramel, coffee, it reminds me of a liqouir there is also a small aftertaste of coffee, but perfectly balanced.

Great Imperial with a unique taste to it. It is boozy, roasted and sweet tasting with hints of rasins and definitely coffee but it isn’t so overwhelming in the coffee department it is all just part of the blend. Great beer to try!

Black/dark brown. Small brown head. Faint aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Flavor of roasted malt, burnt caramel, coffee, light dose of bittersweet chocolate, and fusel alcohol. Medium/full body, smooth. Decent, not top 50.

What a shock to see this one. A black appearance with little head. The aroma has an alcohol presence but also contains some molasses, chocolate, coffee, and raisins. The flavor is quite sweet but that can be expected at 16%. The flavor contained some chocolate, coffee, licorice, raisins, and a hint of smoke. This lives up to expectations. Great beer!
