Commercial Description:
This is our first edition of Dark Horizon. It is the first, for us anyway. There will be more to follow, and even though they will be other editions, they will still be firsts. “Let’s go crazy!” said Tore. The last time he said that, we created #100, which proved to be a success. How could I not agree to his suggestion? “How crazy can we be?” I responded. “Go all the way!” he answered. So we started off with a beefed up Imperial Stout, extra dark and extra bitter, not much to it really, but maybe a bit over the top. When this brew had fermented, we gathered again on a sunny Saturday morning, ready for next move. Half a ton of demerara sugars and our homemade extract of coffee were waiting for us. Standing there with sticky sugars all over the brewery and us, I just couldn’t resist asking Tore: “Don’t you have better things to do during week ends?” To this point he still hasn’t answered me. After adding a hefty volume of wine yeast, we left this brew to itself for month. A good month, that was.

This is ale; it is also a wine, and a coffee drink. We’ve been playful and brewed a hybrid. Do yourself and your friends a favour and share this bottle with those you deem worthy. Dark Horizon is indeed a global brew. Inspiration from the US Midwest, malt from England, bottles from Germany, name from Japan, sugars from Mauritius, hops from the Pacific rim, Yeast from Canada, coffee from Colombia, brewed in Grimstad, Norway.

All bottles of Dark Horizon are numbered with its unique number, and all together we launched 6000 of this brew.

37 P, 75 IBU, 16% ABV.

Shared by sliffy. Black body with a medium brown head. The aroma is coffee, vanilla, and definite alcohol. The palate is full and thick--oily as well. Taste follows the nose with definite roasted coffee flavors in the forefront. Alcohol definitely makes itself known in the flavor as well--but doesn’t detract from the taste. Really big, enjoyable stout.

500. Thanks, after4ever! Pours opaque black with a thin tan head. Sweet aroma of vanilla, alcohol, chocolate, coffee. I could tell immediately the the ABV was in double digits. Sweet, chewy full body and light carbonation. The taste has the same vanilla, alcohol, chocolate, coffee as the nose. Coffee pine finish. This is a great one to sip.

WOW. The aroma is what i described as coffee with vodka, chocolate, vanilla, smooth. Pours dark brown, very dark. Smooth flavor, the alcohol is hidden unitll the very end where it bites you as it goes down, although to me it is surprisingly easy to drink. Licoricce flavors, chocolate, and its very warming.

Mad props to dsnowden for this one! Jet black color with a thin dark tan head at the edges. Strong, intense aroma - cocoa, dark chocolate, alcohol, roast, in order of intensity. The taste is smoother than the aroma would let on - very roasty start, with spicy malts and chocolate coming out on the finish. The finish is also quite warming, but that is the most apparent sign of the ABV, since the taste is so smooth. A fantastic brew!

500. Thank you so much, Maria! This is a completely overwhelmingly amazing beer. Just astonishingly good. Pours thick deep opaque black with a little bit of moussy tan head for a minute, but then it settles to headless, laceless stillness. Prunes, dates, soy, chocolate, and vanilla on the nose. Deep thick oily viscous body on the attack, fairly still, ultra intense flavors: soy, chocolate, white sugar, dates, plums, prunes. Just a huge churning maelstrom of flavors. Light tingling hop and soy bitterness on the finish. Just awesome stuff.

Rating #3300. 500ml bottle. Pitch black body with a small, thin brown head. Huge, heavy and hot wine-like boozy nose, with notes of cherry syrup, port wine and oak tannins. Big merlot and syrah resemblance. Hugely thick up front, thinning out over the middle, turning into more of a thin and sweet fruit and sweet dark chocolate syrup note. And that’s what saves it - the chocolate syrup. Kind of a simple flavor, not too deep or complerx, but certainy delicious - sweet port/liquer and chocolate syrup. Finishes dry and prickly in the mouth. Very good stuff, I’ve not had anything like it before.

[Odense-tasting at Scheffel. Bottle from Christian.] Heavy, heavy, heavy aroma and flavor of alcohol, coffeechocs, complexity. Nice black look with beautiful tanned head. Roasted, lasts for 2 hours, needs time to acclimate!
