Commercial Description:
This is our first edition of Dark Horizon. It is the first, for us anyway. There will be more to follow, and even though they will be other editions, they will still be firsts. “Let’s go crazy!” said Tore. The last time he said that, we created #100, which proved to be a success. How could I not agree to his suggestion? “How crazy can we be?” I responded. “Go all the way!” he answered. So we started off with a beefed up Imperial Stout, extra dark and extra bitter, not much to it really, but maybe a bit over the top. When this brew had fermented, we gathered again on a sunny Saturday morning, ready for next move. Half a ton of demerara sugars and our homemade extract of coffee were waiting for us. Standing there with sticky sugars all over the brewery and us, I just couldn’t resist asking Tore: “Don’t you have better things to do during week ends?” To this point he still hasn’t answered me. After adding a hefty volume of wine yeast, we left this brew to itself for month. A good month, that was.

This is ale; it is also a wine, and a coffee drink. We’ve been playful and brewed a hybrid. Do yourself and your friends a favour and share this bottle with those you deem worthy. Dark Horizon is indeed a global brew. Inspiration from the US Midwest, malt from England, bottles from Germany, name from Japan, sugars from Mauritius, hops from the Pacific rim, Yeast from Canada, coffee from Colombia, brewed in Grimstad, Norway.

All bottles of Dark Horizon are numbered with its unique number, and all together we launched 6000 of this brew.

37 P, 75 IBU, 16% ABV.

Bottle 500ml. Black colour, rich creamy head. Very rich aroma with coffee, malt, chocolate and many other notes in it. Taste is filled with mämmi, choclolate, dark hops, roaste malt and long smooth unique finish. Alcohol comes more up when beer warms a bit. This beer eeps getting better and better as time passes by.

bottle thanks to The Beer Sommelier! Rating #500 for me... have been looking forward to this one for a while... and it is a solid brew... but I’d have to say not worth it’s price tag. pours a dark black (not as dark as the name would imply).... not a lot of head on this one.... just a slim tan lacing that fades eventually to a slim clear alcohol induced lacing. the aroma is mainly deep malts with some sweetness and a touch of alcohol fresh out of the bottle. big chewy body with some deep coffee notes throughout. dark fruits take over the palate with raisins, plums and light apples dominating. there is some bitterness on the back and in the finish along with a burst of alcohol to round everything out. A solid Imperial Stout... glad I got to have a bottle...

Poured thick black with a creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted coffee, chocolate, and booze. Lots of booze when cold but as it warmed (or I warmed) roasted coffee, chocolate, and some fruit.

Completely black body, and almost no head at all, a bit disappointing appearance actually. Fantastic, rich, oily aroma of tar and smoke. Well, the high alcohol centent is influencing the flavour a bit too much for my taste, but it is still a good beer, A nice experience, but not a favourite. Tromsø, 140309 Bottle #01369

#00696. Pours black with moderate body and brown head. Crazy aroma- tons of vinous notes right out of the gate, followed by dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, and some citrusy fruity notes. Flavor smashes you up front with sweet berry, grape, and other dark fruits on a roasty, dry dark chocolate backbone, hints of coffee and roasted malts, and a surprising amount of hops throughout and into the finish. Palate is far fuller than I thought it would be on the initial pour, though not weighed down by excessive chocolate maltiness. Really well balanced and almost excessively complex, this is a work of art.

Bierkoning. Dark black stout with large head. Most inviting nose of dark berries, coffee and malts. Taste of coffee and chocolate with plenty of other subtle notes. High ABV well-hidden. Very well done.

Fantastic multylayered, vinous imperial stout with allot of everything, though very mellowed out and subtile. Warming yet drinkable, slick yet powerfull. Love the redwine/berry notes alongside the coffe and chocolate.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry coffee with nice roasted malt notes. Taste is also dominated by dry coffee with some black chocolate and ends with a dry hoppy bitter taste. Body is quite full with good carbonation and surprisingly enough alcohol is not discernable. Well done but still somewhat overrated in my opinion.
