Commercial Description:
This is our first edition of Dark Horizon. It is the first, for us anyway. There will be more to follow, and even though they will be other editions, they will still be firsts. “Let’s go crazy!” said Tore. The last time he said that, we created #100, which proved to be a success. How could I not agree to his suggestion? “How crazy can we be?” I responded. “Go all the way!” he answered. So we started off with a beefed up Imperial Stout, extra dark and extra bitter, not much to it really, but maybe a bit over the top. When this brew had fermented, we gathered again on a sunny Saturday morning, ready for next move. Half a ton of demerara sugars and our homemade extract of coffee were waiting for us. Standing there with sticky sugars all over the brewery and us, I just couldn’t resist asking Tore: “Don’t you have better things to do during week ends?” To this point he still hasn’t answered me. After adding a hefty volume of wine yeast, we left this brew to itself for month. A good month, that was.

This is ale; it is also a wine, and a coffee drink. We’ve been playful and brewed a hybrid. Do yourself and your friends a favour and share this bottle with those you deem worthy. Dark Horizon is indeed a global brew. Inspiration from the US Midwest, malt from England, bottles from Germany, name from Japan, sugars from Mauritius, hops from the Pacific rim, Yeast from Canada, coffee from Colombia, brewed in Grimstad, Norway.

All bottles of Dark Horizon are numbered with its unique number, and all together we launched 6000 of this brew.

37 P, 75 IBU, 16% ABV.

Bottle. This is serious beer. Coffee, treackle, warming alcohol finish. Raosted malt, a rich sweetness wll balanced by the hops and by the coffee. A lovely milk chocolate head over a pitch dark brew. The best so far from Nøgne ø, and they wil have a tough time outdoing themselves now. A world class beer from a country with the strangest beer laws outside the Islamic world!

As dark and rich as it gets, just short of DL. Rich, sweet, toasty and chocolate. Still has a big alcohol bite to it though. Once this mellows, this will be a perfect Impy.

Bottle shared by jsquire. Thanks so much Jeff!! Poured a very small tan head that quickly dissipated, no lacing, opaque, no visible carbonation, and a black hue. The nose was malty, coffee, roasty, semi-bitter, alcohol, and wine. Very nice indeed! The flavor was lightly bitter, coffee, roasty, vinuous, chocolate, and a hint of dark fruit. Wow! What a nice combination! Wow! Tingly mouthfeel and medium body. Very quaffable, an imperial stout to be sipped and enjoyed to its fullest. This is a drink to behold! I would truly enjoy being able to have this one again and again. More than worthy of a try IMO. Thanks again, Jeff!

Expensive bottle during Max’s 72 Hour Belgian Beer Fest. Number was #01316. Used-oil black pour. Aroma is dark roasted malts, booze, vanilla, and molasses. Very strong! Taste is very similar - lots of roasted malts, woody notes, booze, vanilla, molasses dark fruits and coffee. Body is slick and very warming. Very booze-like. Soft carbonation. Ends with more alcohol, dark roasted malts, vanilla, molasses, coffee and wood. Very big and very nice! YUMMY!

Last and the best beer from X-mas package sent by Papsoe (thanks), shared with Doggythedog.
Bottled(500ml). -Deep, deep black coloured, small but lasting dark brown head, pleasant alcoholic chocolate and whiskey nose. Malty, slight alcoholic and pure chocolate taste with notes of coffee, dried fruits and licorice. Well balanced high alcohol percentage. Delicious brew and the best imperial stout that I’ve tried.
Once again huge thanks to Papsoe for this one.

Bottle shared by iowaherkeye. Thanks again Joey. Poured a nearly opaque black color with only some red getting through along the edge of the glass. Attractive aroma of molasses, anise, chocolate liqueur, raisin, and a whiff of cherry. The alcohol was warm and while it made it’s presence known, I wouldn’t have guessed it was 16%. I detected a hint of smoke, but the dominant flavors were a nice mixture of coffee, chocolate, raisin, and fig. The smooth, oily texture was just another element that made this one a home run.

Consumed @ Alesmith BA release, thanks whomever brought the bottle. Pours black with a creamy light brown head. The nose was sweet and robust and forboding. Taste was huge, @ 2ish in the afternoon a 16% beer can kick your ass. Powerful gnarley coffee taste. Killer
