COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
There is so much fun involved in creating Dark Horizon. Once it ferments, everyone in the brewery are very enthusiastic and pay close attention. Is the yeast still active? Is everything OK? How does the flavours evolve? Dark Horizon is normally dark and velvety. Muscovado sugars provides good fruity aromas. The coffee is a chapter on its own. The green beans will first be treated alfa amylase, an enzyme brewers enjoy working with. Then we mash the green beans before drying and roasting them. This gives it the unique flavor Dark Horizon deserves. Share Dark Horizon with someone you think deserves it.

Bottle. very dark brown, not much foam despite trying to splash the glass. Intense fruity chocolate aroma, vanilla, coffee, alcohol. More coffee in the flavor, more alcohol, some ash in the mix, plus the other elements. Coffee stays long through the finish. Definitely boozy but not "hot", i would not have guessed 16abv.

Bottle with thanks to Ben! Pours opaque black with a small dark brown head that dissipates pretty quickly but leaves pretty good lacing behind. Aroma is hugely roasty, coffee, a bit of anise perhaps. Flavor is roasty, roasty, coffee, roasty. Medium plus sweet, bitter baking chocolate, light bitterness, a bit of vanilla and tobacco. Light astringency or more likely acidity from the coffee beans. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. A lot of warming going on, but now that I see it is 16% ABV I actually think it was masked pretty well; I would have guessed about 12% from drinking it blind.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Ar: heavy roastiness, fat malt backbone, coffee, chocolate, tar, cigarettes, Brown sugar, vanilla, dried dark fruits, licorice, ABV evident, but well integrated. Ap: dark as a Scandinavian winter’s night, small Brown head. T: full bodied, fat malt backbone, roastiness, coffee, chocolate, licorice, ash, cigarettes, Brown sugar, heavy sweetness, big bitterness, pronounced saltiness, ABV evident, but considering how high it is it is very well integrated. P: full bodied, soft carbonation, long warming roasty finish. T: impressing!

Scent of syrup, dark chocolate, coffee. The taste strong, not too dry and taste of coffee with dark chocolate in. A little sweetness also in taste. The aftertaste is good of roasted malt. An impressive beer to drink but I probably would not drink it again. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Bottle at Pikkulintu. Black color, minimal beige head. Bittersweet taste with chocolate, ripe fruits, liquorice, a bit of alcohol, coffee and nuts. Bittersweet finish with ripe fruits, liquorice and alcohol. Excellent high ABV imperial stout, might be even better with aging as the alcohol still stings a bit.

Bottle from Belmont Station, Portland. Pours a very dark black, little bit of tan head. Aroma roasty and almost fruity, muscovado burnt sweetness. Body roasty, smooth not nearly as hot as one would expect. Finish slightly roasty incredibly smooth, really.

Tiny 8/5 oz. bottle wrapped in a gorgeous royal violet wrapping paper that would have made my wife cream her jeans in its exquisiteness. The box is a great triangular box, with some hieroglyphic looking markings which may spell out the secrets of the universe (one can only hope). Anyway, enough of the bullshit and on to the rating. The pour is thick, rich, jet black, absolutely NO light coming through this baby. The nose is an intense medley of roast molasses-y dark malt, hops, cacao, coffee, walnut, blackberry. Tastes rich, intense in flavor, with roasty charred choc malt flavors, hops, blackberry, cacao, mild coffee, molasses, and a very smooth finish for a beer this big. I’d buy this by the fifth if I could. WOw, what a beer, and thanks to Nogne O for providing a beer worthy of Doc Lock’s 7,000th rating. Cheers, and Ba Ba Booey to y’all.
