There is so much fun involved in creating Dark Horizon. Once it ferments, everyone in the brewery are very enthusiastic and pay close attention. Is the yeast still active? Is everything OK? How does the flavours evolve? Dark Horizon is normally dark and velvety. Muscovado sugars provides good fruity aromas. The coffee is a chapter on its own. The green beans will first be treated alfa amylase, an enzyme brewers enjoy working with. Then we mash the green beans before drying and roasting them. This gives it the unique flavor Dark Horizon deserves. Share Dark Horizon with someone you think deserves it.

Pours nearly black. Close to no head. Very thick body. Ok carbonation. Alcohol, plum, malt, hop, dark fruit, coffee, dark chocolate aroma. Bitter. Complex, warming and maybe over the top. Needs to be served quite tempered.

Tung pjäs. Passar inte riktigt just nu bland alla rariteter med subtila toner. Men nog är den bra. Lite väl med alkohol kanske..

Draught at Akkurat. Opaque black liquid with medium tan head. Aroma of leather, pumpernickel, coffee, chocolate, bread, raw sugar and tobacco. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of licorice, leather and coffee. Some warming booze. Full bodied with medium carbonation. Quite nice.

Bottle, courtesy of the brewery - thanks Cathie! :-) Ah, the 4th installment in the DH series - much awaited as always. A return to the past, they say; let’s see for myself. Pours a deep black body with a medium foamy caramel-hued head. Aroma is roasted coffee beans, honey, brown sugar, licorice, alcohol and hints of leather and sweet caramel. Thick and quite lovely. Taste is sharp alcohol up front, then chocolate and coffee before loads of sweet licorice, leather and hints of ashes and mild herbs coat my palate. Aftertaste is cough syrup and something thick and vegetable-ish, perhaps the green beans at work? Thick and velvety mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. A bit sweet perhaps, and also slightly rough around the edges, though very smooth compared to others in the same (heavyweight) class. A successful new version of this famous series, but not quite as good as the first two editions. This might change with a bit of aging though, as I do suspect a certain "uncut diamond"-factor at play here. In any case, well brewed. :-)
