COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
There is so much fun involved in creating Dark Horizon. Once it ferments, everyone in the brewery are very enthusiastic and pay close attention. Is the yeast still active? Is everything OK? How does the flavours evolve? Dark Horizon is normally dark and velvety. Muscovado sugars provides good fruity aromas. The coffee is a chapter on its own. The green beans will first be treated alfa amylase, an enzyme brewers enjoy working with. Then we mash the green beans before drying and roasting them. This gives it the unique flavor Dark Horizon deserves. Share Dark Horizon with someone you think deserves it.

nutty cakey aroma. slick butter in the mouth. moussy carbonation. odd spicy taste, chilli pepper burn I guess. Strange vanilla sweetness. raisins, vodka, not as raw a previous ones, but could still do with some aging. finish is dry bitterness, ans sweet burntness. need to cellar a bottle I guess. OK to Nice, but not yet good.

Super rich burnt roast aroma, super coffee aspects too. In the mouth it’s a lovely rich roast, but isn’t ashy. A monster of a dark porter, but so tasty that its drinkability is very high - sure you sip rather than glug, but you sip often. Carbonation remarkably high for a 16% IS, that’s probably what keeps it from being heavy or too cloying. Certainly has begun to round out nicely compared with the previous one (which Anna didn’t have). It’s the end of the day, I’ve got a lovely beer in my hand, I don’t want to write any more, sorry.

8.5 ounce bottle from Beer Run. Pours a dark brown with a thin frothy head. Decent head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, dark fruits, strong coffee, mild nuts, anise and a moderate amount of booze. The taste is dark fruits, coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, mild bubblegum. Medium bodied, low carbonation, prickly booze, decent balance. 9200th rating!

8.5 oz. bottle from Keg Liquors. Pours a deep, opaque near-black color with a small tan head that leaves some spots of lace and film, as well as a nice ring. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, roasted malts, sugars, cacao, tobacco, and a hint of earth. Flavor of earth, tobacco, roast, coffee, dark chocolate, sugars, and molasses. Starts earthier and becomes sweeter. Medium-full bodied, with low carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel that coats the palate a bit. The ABV is pretty well masked. Nice. Not as sweet as the Third Edition.

25 cL bottle from Binny’s in Chicago, served in a snifter alongside MIkkeller Black, BrewDog Tokyo*, Black-Tokyo-Horizon and Horizon-Tokyo-Black. Pours black with a minimal head that fades and leaves only a trace of fine lace. The nose has huge coffee and smoky malts, along with chocolate, molasses and a touch of tobacco. The flavour is moderately sweet throughout, with chocolate and huge coffee notes that grow through the second half, along with an herbal-hoppy quality balanced with molasses. The finish is long and roasty with moderate coffee notes. On the palate it is full in body with a smooth, milky-syrupy texture and almost nonexistent carbonation. Overall, a very nice imperial stout with huge coffee notes. Delicate and complex, very nice. 2015-01-10

Aroma is coffee, caramel, mocha, vanilla beans and rich malts. Taste is very very deep. Fantasticly rich and sweet body. Brown sugar, molasses, caramel, mocha, vanilla beans, fig and dark chocolate. The rich flavors mellow out exceptionally with only slight liquor burn for a 16% beer! Appearance is black with a thin pearl head that retains poorly.

250 ml bottle thanks to Gunnar. Black as night body with dark brown head. Aromas of chocolate, liquorice, some coffee and alcohol, some earthy notes. Taste is pretty bittersweet, with chocolate, vanilla, liquorice, dark fruits and coffee, some hops to balance but nothing overpowering. Bittersweet aftertaste, pretty sticky motuhfeel. Medium to full body with low to medium carbonation. A GREATLY balanced Imperial Stout, a true masterpiece!!
