3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 10, 2014 275ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki) (7:4:7:4:13=3.5)
nutty cakey aroma. slick butter in the mouth. moussy carbonation. odd spicy taste, chilli pepper burn I guess. Strange vanilla sweetness. raisins, vodka, not as raw a previous ones, but could still do with some aging. finish is dry bitterness, ans sweet burntness. need to cellar a bottle I guess. OK to Nice, but not yet good.

Super rich burnt roast aroma, super coffee aspects too. In the mouth it’s a lovely rich roast, but isn’t ashy. A monster of a dark porter, but so tasty that its drinkability is very high - sure you sip rather than glug, but you sip often. Carbonation remarkably high for a 16% IS, that’s probably what keeps it from being heavy or too cloying. Certainly has begun to round out nicely compared with the previous one (which Anna didn’t have). It’s the end of the day, I’ve got a lovely beer in my hand, I don’t want to write any more, sorry.

Very fruity and sweet smell. It tastes fruity and in the begining and you can feel the strong coffee after taste. One of the best ever!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
250mL bottle in cool little triangular shaped box.
Sinister black brew - pretty much opaque, and could pass as old motor oil. A small ring of dark tan foam holds to the top with a bit of oily residue (hop/coffee oils?). Getting legs on the glass with this one!
Aroma slowly reveals itself as it warms; dark chocolate, molasses, sugar crystals, seriously potent espresso & heavily roasted coffee beans. Port-like undertones of plum/prune, raisin & booze.
Tremendous weigh & length on the palate - thick without being cloying, low carbonation, sticky yet with a drying acrid burnt coffee/roast malt character providing some balance, of sorts.
Delivers BIG flavours, as expected; coffee liqueur, brown sugar, chocolate pudding, old tawny port, & freshly ground coffee. Plenty of bitterness & silky boozy warmth, balances out all of that upfront sweetness. Satisfyingly lingering on the palate for a near-eternity.
Substantial, really substantial! Almost rivals a liqueur or fortified wine. Damn sensational really!

Flaske 0,25l fra Vinmonopolet, bestillingsutvalget. Batch 857/858. Drukket på RV124 7 Feb 14. Svart.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle pours black dark roasted coffee in colour and gives a thick hazelnut coloured foam that lasts just long enough. Aroma og coffee is prevalent with hints of nuts and dark roasted malts. Taste is mainly of dark roasted coffee that lasts quite long and gives of a strong bitterness that gives a long lasting palate that is quite complex and chabges from bitter to sweet in the taste. All in all a great stout!

So sort of my Birthday beer..didn’t want to crack this thing mid week. Black glug glug viscous motor oil pour with tan head, jesus..this stuff is aromatic, coffee, dark fruit, more dark fruit, roasted malts, dark fruit... a lot of dark fruit, kind of reminds me of dark lord (record for using the word dark in a rating..check). Taste holy hell..this is a big beer..massive flavour of coffee, marshmallow sweetness but not cloying at least not for me, sherry like undertones, lots of dark fruit (surprise surprise) but where is the booze? There is some warmth after the fact but for 16% its pretty subtle..dangerous beer. To summarize a big sweet decadent mean son of gun that hides the abv better than the US hockey team hid their disappointment of loosing to Canada in back to back Olympics..schwing!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
250ml bottle pours black in color with a small light brown head that only leaves a few specks of lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted grains and coffee with some dark fruits, perhaps figs or prunes. Taste is dark fruit and malty sweetness with a roasted grain and coffee bitterness with a pronounced alcohol burn in the finish. Medium to heavy body with light carbonation. Quite an interesting imperial stout which is definitely worth trying once.
