3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Smaskifa (111) - Oslo, NORWAY - APR 7, 2013
Tap at Beer Palace, Oslo, on their 20th anniversary. I had this one along with the fourth edition, which was an interesting experience. Pours pitch black with a minimal beige head. The aroma is very fruity and malty, malt extract, brown sugar, sugar syrup, coffee. The taste is dominated by sweetness, almost to a sickening level. You feel the brown sugar, malt extract, sugar canes, a wee bit of prune. The finish feels like black coffee mixed with sugar, and reminds me a little of Baily’s as well. Very sweet finish but you also get a nice kick of some proper licorice which is nice. The palate is pleasant and full on, well carbonated for the style. I’ve got a bottle which will be left to mature for a little while still, so maybe it’ll develop some new characters in a few years. Generally this one is too sweet, I guess you can easily share a 0,25 bottle on four people.

Bottle. Pours a deep dark black with a thin tan head. Aroma of coffee beans, roasted malts, rich chocolate, brown sugar and alcohol. Flavor was very sweet and intense with brown sugar, dark fruit, molasses, chocolate, licorice, coffee and had a touch of smoke with a nice warming semi dry finish.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Simonsen (230) - NORWAY - MAR 29, 2013
0.25 flaske drukket på hytta med esp0r. Køl svart uten skum eller karbonering. Mørke smaker. Kaffe, kandissukker, lakris, karamell. En fornøelig liten sak som funker som dessert. Greit med liten flaske siden den er på 15.5%

Like sherry with heavy dark fruit tone and aroma with a dry envelope surrounding it which seems to have an almost sticky burnt character to it.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jonnyguns (384) - - MAR 9, 2013
Bottle from mane liquor. Cheers once again josh! Sexy jet black pour with a small tanned head. Awesome lacing left clinging to the glass. Nose has vanilla, oak, chocolate and dark fruits. The taste brings out the coffee notes with a large sweetness about it. Almost a candied type toffee sugariness about it. Because of the sweetness the booze isn’t overly noticed...which is something I’ve come to expect from nogne o. This is an exceptional beer

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 TheJestersBeer (1665) - SWEDEN - FEB 25, 2013
250ml bottle.
Pours pitch black, with a thin brown head.
Huge aroma, roasted malt, coffee, licorice, dark chocolate, tar, ashes.
Sweet, full bodied, high bitterness, creamy CO2.
Thick, complex taste, coffee, roasted malt, figs, chocolate, licorice.
Sugary, thick mouthfeel, almost like a PX Sherry. Quite compact at this stage, I wish I had another bottle for further cellaring. (2013-02-23)
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 laiti (3925) - Tampere, FINLAND - FEB 24, 2013
25 cl bottle @ home. Batch #373: bottled 03.07.2009, BBE 03.07.2018
Aroma is somwehat stale with licorice, rubber, alcohol and hay. Flavour is slightly sweet with ripe fruits, coffee, licorice, some alcohol and syrup. Also some herbal notes in the dinish. This used to be sweet, hoppy and messy. Now this is just sweet with too much alcohol.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 neuromatt (858) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 23, 2013
250 mL bottle from Beverages 4 Less in Santee California, served in a stem glass alongside Black Tokyo Horizon and its other constituent beers at a tasting with Chris. Pours black with virtually no head. The nose has huge coffee and big smoke, along with herbs, anise, roasted malts and a touch of earth. The flavour is big, sweet molasses with lots of coffee, herbs, and a hint of smoke. The finish is long and herbal with roasted malts, a touch of pepper and a hint of smoke. On the palate, it is full in body with a smooth, syrupy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice sweet coffee stout; it has perhaps a bit too much sweetness, but is excellent overall. 2013-01-25

1st April 2012 Opaque black - brown beer. Decent bubbly tan head. Smooth and semi dry palate. Sweet rich coffee with real depth. Whisper of red fruits and chocolate. Semi dry finish. Rich and tasty, hides the alcohol quite well.
