3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This one poured a dark brown with a tiny tan head. Aroma of chocolate, toffee, caramel, smoke, and cherry. Flavor was way sweeter than the first too, sweet chocolate, roast, mild booze. Still solid for the abv.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: pours dark black with no head, aroma is boozy with some hints of chocolate, taste is chocolate, somewhat sweet with a boozy finish. I remember really enjoying DH #1 but this one doesn’t do much for me.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
No bottling information, looking at ratings I’d guess it’s from September 2010 though.
Appearance: The body is a muddy chestnut with almost no head, only a thin tan ring.
Aroma: The aroma leans sweet and intense with port wine and chocolate notes, hints of coffee and figs. Very fruity, the fruits are stronger than the coffee and chocolate.
Taste: Huge port wine notes are interwoven through out with cherry and figs being strong. The coffee is barely here but it adds an odd earthy coffee aroma, maybe it’s not odd maybe it’s how it plays with the wine notes. Chocolate notes are throughout, they are subdued though and from the mid-taste to the finish the beer has a pretty strong medicinal flavor. The aftertaste is like cherry Robotussin. Now that I think about it, maybe it’s black licorice giving the medicinal presence.
Palate: Thick, but a bit thin in presence, if that makes any sense. Carbonation is low to non-existent.
Overall: The price knocks this down a few notches in the overall department, very cost inefficient. This was probably great fresh, now it’s this very fruity and medicinal beer. Pass on this.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
250 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 2010. Pours pitch black color with a small foamy tan head with poor retention, that reduces to a ring of lace. Slight spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, toast, toffee, light char, molasses, and roasted earthiness; with some slight booze. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of coffee and roasted/dark malt notes; and good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toast, toffee, light char, molasses, tobacco, and roasted earthiness. Lingering notes of coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, toffee, molasses, tobacco, light char, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice balance and complexity of intense dark/roasted malt flavors with coffee; with zero booze or cloying sweetness after the finish. Light carbonation and very full bodied; with a creamy, slick, syrupy, and fairly chalky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden for 15.5%, with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice imperial coffee stout. Very nice intense and balanced dark/roasted malt flavors with coffee; and definitely a sipper to enjoy slowly. A very enjoyable offering.
