3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
(Bottle) Black colour, with hints of ruby when seen through light. Foamy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of sweet espresso, liquorice, soy sauce, molasses and dark rye bread. Malty, roasted taste with liquorice, molasses, burnt sugar, sweet espresso, cacao, a touch of sweet PX sherry, black rye bread and a sweet finish with a warming touch of alcohol and a hint of tar. Full body, quite sweet. Actually a touch too sweet. The even stronger second edition was actually more balanced and probably less sweet, but this is still quite a nice beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark colour with almost no head due to the alcohol level. Massive aroma of licorice, dark chocolate, alcohol. Flavour is sweet, almost portwineish. Malts, candy, oak, coffee. Intense flavour. Full bodied, long sweet aftertaste with low carbonation. Way too sweet for me, but a interresting beer.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap from the last keg in the US (from 2008) at the Birch. Pours opaque black with not head. Aroma is bourbon, chocolate, dark roasted malt, coffee. Definitely boozy. Flavor is the same, quite sweet with light bitterness and a medium warming finish. Very low carbonation, but a creamy full body. Very nice, if a bit boozy, beer. Glad I had the chance to try it.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours almost opaque red, no head. Smells a bit funky & sweet/sour. Tastes of coffee, cream, chocolate, brown sugar, molasses, and cognac. Roasted and burnt flavors. Thick, sweet, and delicious, with decent alcohol presence.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled in a bottle. Aged for two years. The coffe flavor is very good however the beer feels more like a malted coffee drink than an imperial stout with coffee accents.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured dark brown/black. No head whatsoever. Smelled mostly of caramel and alcohol. Tasted incredibly sweet. A few notes of coffee and earthy/oak flavor. I aged the beer for a year and a half. It’s almost too sweet.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: OCT 24, 2013 8.5 oz bottle in tin tube.
Deep, walnut-stain brown with essentially no head....tan ring...
Aroma of dark, vinous fruit,....wood smoke...sweet and roasted.
Flavour is sticky-thick molasses-sugar-candy.
Dark fruit, chocolate-coffee....busy.
Outlandishly sweet...alcohol is presented by a gentle fumey effect in the sinuses and a slight acrid bitter.
Incredible stuff, just needs shared and tasted in small doses...unless you’re a sugar junkie.
