fonefan (35959) - VestJylland, DENMARK - OCT 4, 2010

Draught @ Mikkeller Bar, Viktoriagade 8BC, kld., DK-1655 Copenhagen, Denmark.

Clear dark black brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, dark chocolate, coffee, dark roasted, smoke notes, cutting oil ! moderate hoppy, flowers, elderflowers. Flavor is heavy sweet sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, floral, chocolate, dark roasted. Body is medium to full, texture is creamy, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light to moderate alcoholic. Did taste the Dark Horizon 3 vertical with the Dark Horizon 1 ... the 1 if so much more deap and complex the 3 is almost just sweet ... will be fun to try it again in 5 year and see if it will have grown to the same league as the 1 .. ;O) [20100920]

From tap at MikkellerBar. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is distinct herbal coffee and dark roasted malt. Sweet caramelish, dextrose, coffee and toffee. Lingering sweet and sticky into the finish. Gets more manageable with each sip.

Draft. A black beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma has notes of coffee, cocoa beans, and roasted malt. The flavor is very sweet with notes of coffee beans, roasted malt, alcohol, caramel, and a bit of wood, leading to a dry finish.

On tap. Pours an opaque black with a small light brown head. The nose has very intense coffee notes and sweet vanilla. Very full-bodied, a little low in carbonation. Intensely sweet hard roasted malts - almost sticky sweet - loads of vanilla and dried fruit. Ashy - almost like Chipotle chilies - and tons and tons of coffee notes. Lacks some hops to balance out the extreme sweetness although the alcohol is not overly dominant. Hard to drink. Would’ve loved to like this a lot more than I did. 200910

Opaque black - brown beer. Decent bubbly tan head. Smooth and semi dry palate. Sweet rich coffee with real depth. Whisper of red fruits and chocolate. Semi dry finish. Rich and tasty, hides the alcohol quite well.

Black color, with a small brownish head, not persistent.
The aroma is a mild mix of roasted malts, dark chocolate, phenol, sea water, alcohol, liquorice; too many chemicals to really be good.
Good body strength; the mouthfeel is full, round, smooth; one of those examples where the high sugars and high alcohol content mix well; strong flavor of dark chocolate, very good coffee, some roasted malt, wood, tobacco, light liquorice tar and Alpine herbs, smoke feeling; I’m totally seduced by the flavor!
It’s sweeter more than bitter, and the final is also very warming.
Excellent sipper.

2010-09-24, draught at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen, 9-4-8-4-17=42
Black color; no head, just a minimal collar of foam. The aroma is 100% coffee, an acid coffee, strongly roasted but not burnt, more dusty than ashy, and light scent of mountain herbs and Amarone wine; deep and elegant. Strong body; the soft carbonation helps to make the mouthfeel more dynamic, less oily; the syrupy coffee flavor reminds me of the coffee filled chocolates called Pocket Coffee, any roasted or burnt malt is present only in traces (which is a good thing for me). The final, with chocolate and coffee, is still very sweet. Excellent, but you gotta have a sweet tooth.
