5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 kalervo (464) - FINLAND - MAY 10, 2012
Totally amazing, really "extreme" beer. I think maturization has made this even better.

THOUGHTS: Wow. Really nice. Much smoother than I was expecting. The coffee kind of hid until the finish.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown that was nearly opaque black with only reddish amber highlights around the edges. Nice legs. It had virtually no head, but what little that was there was tan to light brown and mostly diminished, but somehow managed to leave good lacing. The aroma had heavy caramel and chocolate syrup; less coffee; dark fruit; raisin; plum; prune; other dried fruit; black cherry; vanilla; alcohol; and something that seemed like bourbon. The initial flavor was heavily sweet and slightly bitter; while the finish was heavy to nearly harshly sweet and lightly bitter. There was chocolate syrup, some dark chocolate, dark fruits like plum prune raisin, black cherry, coffee a little vanilla, alcohol, caramel, something like bourbon, molasses, brown sugar, toffee and fruity yeast and something maybe like sake. The medium to full body was very oily with soft, nearly flat, carbonation and a light to moderately alcoholic finish.

Ufattelig søt, men humlet godt opp så det balanserer fint. Deilige smaker av kaffe og ristet malt. Mye alkoholpreg som blender litt smak, men er deilig! Lang deilig ettersmak - anbefales for de som får tak i den.
4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 stunetii (90) - Bergen, NORWAY, NORWAY - MAR 20, 2011
Amazing beverage, but it’s best shared with a friend and paired with desert, like a chocolate chip muffin, chocolate cake or even Oreo cookies. Doing so really brings out the best of this stout: think Nøgne Ø’s regular imperial stout, but one on steroids.
Pours with a thick, pitch-black color culminating in a very small, but resilient tan head that clings to the side of the glass.
The aroma includes a complex mixture of massive burnt coffee, roast malts and dark chocolate. Given the 15% abv, it should not be surprising to find such a focused alcohol scent
The creamy mouthfeel is accompanied by a tremendously complex flavor structure, although perhaps somewhat less complex when compared to the Sweet Horizons. Think coffee, hops, and a weak reference to the alcohol, finally finishing off with a slightly sweet malty taste and references to chocolate and caramel. Paring this with a chocolate desert really accentuates the stout’s sweetness and completely masks the alcohol taste.
