Draft @ Moeder Lambic.

Appearance: Black color with a small tan head. Some lacing.
Aroma: Fruity and dark malty.
Palate: Medium plus body. A bit sweet and a mild bitterness. Soft carbonation. Oily texture.
Taste: Balanced fine berry fruity sweetness on a solid dark malt background. A hoppy tail showed up after a while. I had not been drinking anything else. So some hops definitely showed up.
Overall impression: Doppelbock is a beer style I normally avoid. This was a nice example of the opposite. Lovely beer.
Personal stats: On tap at Crowbar & Bryggeri in Oslo, Norway.

On tap, Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Damn, had no idea this was a doppelbock when I’d ordered it at first. Poured a veery dark red body. Full aroma, raisins and dust, heavy maltiness. Sweet malty taste, creamy, yup, raisins, with some very very light soy sauce. Respectable but grew boring quite fast unfortunately. Oh well, can’t love ’em all.

Tap @ Tap and Handle Fort Collins. Pours a dark brown head with a light brown head. Somewhat boozy, caramelized sugary, grape, dark fruity, a bit nutty aroma. Toffee, dark chocolate, somewhat fruity flavor with some booze and mild carbonation. Not bad. 2011 vintage.

Bottle. This is a serious doppel. As I have come to expect from Nogne this beer is through in its attention to detail.

Draft at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a jet black colour with a thin, broken tan head . The aroma is smoky with fruity notes. The flavour is rich, medium bitter and medium sweet, with lots of liquorice and red berry fruit on the palate. A really superb Dobbelbock and quite possibly the the best I’ve ever tasted.

Dark brown color, nearly black, with compact head. Strong notes of oxidisation, caramel aroma. Caramel flavor, with dark caramel, and strong oxidisation note; correct bitterness.
It reminds me of some 25 years old Belgian bottle. Strange idea.

On draft at Churchkey in D.C. for the Nøgne Ø beer event. Kjetil Jikiun told me that he will not brew this beer again, as he does not enjoy making lagers. The beer is rusty orange to brown hued with a mild haze and a small head. The aroma is mild, offering a touch of sweetness, malt, and subtle hints of alcohol and molasses. The flavor is more forward and present than the aroma, with a fruity, malty sweetness and a nice bready character. Pretty light in body and easy to drink. Hard to believe this is nearly 9%. I could definitely enjoy a few pints of this. Not on the level of Andechser or Ayinger Celebrator, but still a solid beer. I would have this again. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 04-27-2012

Draft. Pours a dark brown color with reddish highlights and a medium sized off white head. The aroma has fruity dark malts, mild fruitiness, earthy notes with a light smokey quality. The flavor has dark fruits featuring raisins, earthy, smoke, sweet, light chocolate notes, with very mild spiciness. Medium plus body. This was a pretty solid dopplebock.
