Dark iced tea color with a four finger head. Citrus, pine, and bread dough nose. Taste is mostly hop with noticeable alcohol. Good mouthfeel but not as great as I expected.

DLD 2009, thanks to one of my fellow Flossmoor Station mug clubbers: It poured a hazy deep orange with a frothy white head. The aroma was all hops - strong citrus scents of yellow grapefruit, tart tangerines, and lemon zest along with a good whiff of resinous pine. The flavor begins with some caramel sweetness, but is soon overwhelmed by strong citrus hop flavors and a serious bitterness. The finish is dry with a prolonged bitterness. Very nice treat for this hop-head.

Cloudy orange, with a nice nice, thick white head. Smells hoppy, and a little smokey, plus notes of herbs and caramel. Crisp and citrusy, with some juicy sweet notesFinishes very dry and grapefruity.

3/18/2009: Nogne O Dobbel IPA fills the nose with an amalgamation of tempting citrus. The flavor is fresh, sweet, and malty for the first 1 or 2 seconds and then the huge pine, resin, and citrusy hops. I really like the flavor, but this beer definitely seems overcarbonated which detracts from the over all experience. Carbonation is a double-edged sword though. One the one hand the carbonation makes the aroma come alive and create a vibrant olfactory experience. On the other hand, it hurts the flavor since it is just too tingly and presents a metallic/sharp/chemical-like (amonia) quality. It is just over carbonated with a mouthfeel more like a Belgian Ale. This beer is very cloudy, murky even, which leads me to believe that there is just too much residual yeast left in the beer. Really tasty, but a bit too much carbonation and too expensive.

1 pt .9 fl. oz. bottle (19’ P : 100 IBU : 8% alc/vol.) from Jungle Jim’s International Market in Fairfield, Ohio. Rating #127 for this beer.

Pours a dark orange color with a big white head that sticks around forever. Aroma is a little citrus pine, some malt, maybe a little honey. Flavor is nice and malty, with a big hop kick. Lots of line hop flavor some bitterness, but also an interesting malt kick in there. Good, but just a bit to wicked on the bitter backend.

Bottle courtesy of RealityDeviant on 04/23/2009. Slightly hazy dark amber body with a large frothy off-white head. Big floral and grassy hop aroma with a bit of caramel. Sweet caramel flavor with lots of floral and earthy hops. Medium full body with moderate carbonation

22 oz bottle (I think). Thought this might be another interesting Nogne, so I picked it up. Also interested in how few ratings there are of it. Pours a dark amber with the biggest head I have ever seen (4 fingers high, off white, fluffy appearance, and I was lucky not to break the edge of the glass). Smells of lots of fresh hops, some malt, and citrus (maybe some pine too). Tastes of a lot of hops, only hints of citrus, a fair bit of malt, and a peppery taste to it. Almost difficult to swallow though, as it is pretty intense. Interesting, but I don’t like THAT big of a head on my beers.
