COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Cask at CBF 2012. Jet black, offwhite lace. Milk chocolate aroma and aromatic hop nose. Mellow mouthfeel, fresh enough - I imagine this would be a great late treat at a Danish julefrokost.

Bottle. Clear and dark brown/red in color with light brown head that lingers. Aroma have some sweatness and well balanced spicyness. Some chocolate notes and a whim of alcohol. Taste is lightly roasted with a smooth sweatness and nutty feeling to it. A nice full body and nice warming finish.

Appearance: color of liquid charcoal under a khaki head with lace. Fades into a mostly full head with bubbles in the collar. Swirls bubbly and lacy.
Nose: mint chocolate candies. Chocolate covered candy cane bits. Mint leaf in the back. Fudge – dry, crumbly, and melt in the mouth. Chocolate covered cherries and raisins – no artificial saccharine sweetness. Black root and black licorice. Juniper berries. Wintergreen. Pine cones and Christmas trees and forests.
Palate: medium to medium-light. Mint leaves, twigs, and chocolate in the breath. Mint and bark and black root. Touch of char in the back – burnt black licorice root. Chocolate mint cream. Juniper in the breath and essence in the palate. Smidge of smoke in the middle. Mint starts to creep into the breath, subtle. Fruit stones – cherry and plum.
Final Thoughts: yum! If it was heavier it would be too much. The balance is impeccable and I love the mint and the chocolate. Beautiful. One of my new favorite Christmas beers.

On tap at Brasserie V - Pours red-tinged black pour with a thin ring of tan head. Light smoke and lots of dark bread malt on the nose. There’s a hint of coffee in the taste, along with big dark fruit doing battle with big, dark roast. Finished with a little smoke and meat. Thick, velvety body, smooth carbonation, and just a bit slick. Good stuff.

On tap at Brasserie V. Pours almost jet black, dark brown highlights if you really get some light behind it. Off-white head. Smoky nose, with some chocolate, caramel, bits of prune. Sweeter taste with smoke, chocolate, and caramel dominating, fruity, slightly woody undertones. Thick, oily mouthfeel. Pretty great.

500ml bottle. Perfection in a glass with a dense dark black colour and a light coffees coloured thick head of foam that crackles and hisses as it settles. Roasted malt and bitter chocolate aromas are pleasing as is the thick mouthfeel and bitter burnt flavours. On the palate there is a dry finish and a mild bitterness.

Nose is cola, clove, licorice. Weird. Taste is really similar. Very sweet, lots of cloves and almost root beer like flavors. Very, VERY spicey. A very interesting beer, I’m glad I tried it... but nothing amazing.
