COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Bottle. Poured black with a creamy tan head that settled to a ring. Big milk chocolate aroma. The flavor found chocolate, coffee, and hints of spice and light roast. Medium to full body, creamy texture, and a light roast aftertaste.

Bottle from South Bay Drugs: After cracking the cap off the bottle, there was an immediate gush of gaseous vapor and a steady flow of foam that made me react fast to pour into my glass and save the beer. Appearance is a dark blackish brown that is almost completely opaque while the foam creates a thick cushion of a pillow like head. The aroma is subtle with the closest resemblance to chocolate coated raisins and also too fig such as that in a fig Newton. Texture comes across as soapy because of the amount of foamy bubbles and this is even after I let the head simmer down to a layer of film covering, but I should also mention the texture is a bit milky since it a thick beer. Flavors are simple and don’t over power the taste buds and consist of lightly roasted malts, cocoa powder, cocoa butter and minor tasting of bitter hops that hide in the faint background, but become more apparent in the finish.

1pt .9oz bottle. The beer gushed upon removing the cap, I tried to pour as fast as possible. It pours a dark dark brown with no light permeating the brew. The head is a deep tan and leaves nice lacing. It smells amazing and decadent. Huge malt whiffs produce tons of carmally chocolate scent. There is also raw cocoa, coffee, and alcohol in the scent. The big surprise here is a nice bit of hops that can be found in the background. It is sweet but not overpowering, with dark chocolate covered caramels being the main focus. Tastes like candy literally. The mouthfeel is nice, though perhaps a bit over carbonated. The alcohol seems to be less noticeable in the taste than in the scent. This is one heck of a warming brew, by far the best English porter I have had, though it is close to Russian imperial stout/Baltic Porter territory. I have the "Winter Ale" version of this beer. Long lasting tan foamy head with great lacing. The aroma is outstanding, and reminds me of a Belgian beer. I hope to try many more from this brewer.

On tap at grunerløkka brygghus before christmas. Dark brown color, looks almost like coca cola, with a thick tanned head :) Nose is roasty malt, caramel, coffee which is joined in the middle by fruit and some herbs, really a taste of christmas, a little abrubt finish. Thick oily feel, which is a very good thing for a beer of this type

500ml bottle from Brewdog bar, Aberdeen. It pours darkest brown with a thin lace of tan head. The nose is banana, wood, honey, vanilla, milk chocolate and some orange blossom. The taste is sweet to start; marshmallow, caramel, dark and milk chocolate, which leads to a more savoury finish of liquorice, aniseed, roasted coffee, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mighty tasty stuff!

Draft at Humpy’s. Wow. Robust is my single word descriptor. Smoky. Bit of a bourbon kick. Absolutely delicious. (#4077, 2/10/2011)

Best christmas beer ever. Pours dark and black. Small head. Notes of coffee, spices, chocolate and tar. This beer has it all.
