Aroma of coffee and licorice. Taste of coffee, chocolate, caramel and licorice in a nice balance. Good beer but in a blindtest I think I would have guessed it was a stout.

Dette blir mer en generell rating.2011 årgangen var fantastisk.nsmakte som en god porter, toppet i de fleste aviser. Rund og fin. 2012 ble det inn med røykmalt, den falt ikke i smak for egen del, 2013 back to basic?

Dark brown pour with a tan head. Roasted malt, nutmeg, dark fruit, and molasses on the nose. Some licorice, yeast, mild chocolate, and caramel. There’s a nice sweetness to the flavor of molasses, dark fruit, and caramel. Some chocolate, roasted malt, and licorice notes. Mild spice, yeast, and a hint of alcohol.

500 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. A slow gusher upon opening. Pours fairly pitch black color with a nice fairly dense and fluffy tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice foamy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of raisin, apple, chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, cocoa, toast, toffee, molasses, clove, pine, floral, light smoke, dark bread, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark malt and fruity notes. Taste of raisin, apple, chocolate, toast, cocoa, caramel, roasted malt, toffee, dark bread, molasses, floral, light pine, light smoke, and roasted earthiness. Lingering notes of dark fruit, chocolate, caramel, toast, roasted malt, floral, light pine, light smoke, and earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic balance and complexity of dark malt flavors with moderate fruitiness; and zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is very nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent English porter! Great balance and complexity of robust dark malt and dark fruit flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jrodooo5 (500) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - MAR 5, 2013
A very interesting aroma that I can’t quite pinpoint but certainly seems fitting for the winter season. The pour is very stout like - deep dark brown with a mocha head that leave some lacing. The taste follows through with the aroma - almost cough syrup like but pleasant. It’s a tad watery on the palate but overall this scores big for uniqueness. A very solid beer!
