On tap@Grünerløkka brygghus. Beige foam that disappears to the edges of the glass. Earthy smell, hard to tell due to excessive intake of pommes frites at neighbouring table. Quite bitter taste that blends with roasted malts. Mellow hints of coffee and chocolate.

On the first sitting with this beer the lively carbonation took over adding a great aroma but masked the flavors on the tongue. It was so off-putting that i re capped the half of the bottle and am drinking it a day later. I must say this did wonders for this beer. It really opened up giving off flavors of roasted malt, sour cherry jam, blackstrap molasses, and tobacco, while the sharp carbonic acidity dissipated into a velvety texture, overwhelmed by the flavors. Overall I can’t justify giving this beer a very good rating based on my first impressions but if you have patience and can get past the lively carbonation, this beer has allot to offer.

Very flavorful, interesting beer. Strong and warming - perfect for a winter evening. Few cookies that were promised;) Still, a very good beer! Norwegian delicacy!

Backlog 2010-edition. Bottle from Systembolaget. Remember this as a slight disappointment. i have a hard time with many winter-seasonals and this just didn’t make the cut.

Was a bit disappointed after other stellar ones from them. The aroma seemed to be quite strong of alcohol to my nose which overpowered some of the more subtle I am sure. Had a hardy mouth feel to it and not much of a head which I suppose is to be expected..... It wasn’t bad but not like others where I would rush out make get another

had as Winter Ale, bro .. . deep brown .. squirrel belly foam .. . lots of spice, spiked jam, and piney booze .. . would be good in a mince pie, other than that, nothing i’d want again .. . . The downside of DVR is getting freaked out by tornado warnings from four days ago..

The pour has a dark black color and leaves the same colored body with a nice ringy lacing clinging very nicely to the pint glass in rings - nice show.
The smell is very coca cola-like initially, but as it warms, some light cherry/raisin comes forth.
The taste has some sweet malty Coca-Cola like qualities with some roasted malty notes and the cherry/raisin like qualities coming back. It has a smooth Coca-Cola like aftertaste with a long sweet somewhat watery finish.
On the palate, it sits about a medium, comes across somewhat sessionable. Carbonation seems a bit smooth for the style and for me, interesting creaminess coats the mouth and tongue.
Overall, this is not a bad winter warmer, pretty interesting with that coca cola aroma and flavoring. Would I have this again, unsure ... but I’m starting to think I should stop reviewing the darker winter warmers as I seem to be straying from a fair amount of them.

Brown with tan head, Aroma of chocolate and liquorice. Flavour of raosted malts and dark chocolate. Fullbodied with high carbonation (too mutch compared to 2012) sticky texture and dry finish, One of my favourites christmas beers. Solid

big chocolaty caramel coffee and toasted malt flavors along with some subtle spice really nice lets you know what youre in for...dense dark brown/black color,no light gets thru..thick foamy tan head lots of lacing on the side of the glass..tastes like coffee..licorice..caramel and chocolate maybe a holiday ale but tastes like a Russian imperial stout ..hops just for tingle at the end more than taste..big beer with thick creaminess otherwise low carbonation and full body..so this is what Norway calls a winter ale..this stuff will warm you up
