COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

UPDATED: DEC 7, 2009 500ml Bottle-Very dark brown in colour with some red tinges and a small head. Rich and fruity aroma with raisins, spice and a hint of Christmas pudding. Bitter, fruity, rich and full bodied taste with raisins again featuring and a nice malty, fruity and bitter aftertaste which is quite nicely balanced. The bitterness is not very strong but it does linger.

Pours a foamy brown head on a dark brown body. Lots of malt and spices in the aroma with notes of chocolate and a hint of alcohol. Malty flavor as well with quite a strong tone of alcohol. Caramel, orange and spices also and some bitterness in the finish. A typical Belgian style ale, not too innovative but well done.

50cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Almost black colour, light beige head. Aroma of tar, peat, liquorice, caramel, earth, sweet, hard roasted malts. Flavour is medium sweet, malty, peat, hard roasted malts, chocolate, hint of spice, liquorice, light earthy bitter finish. Fullbodied. Great stuff, like a peated porter.

Bottle, Sweet caramel, roasted malts with some barley aromas. Dark body with tan head. Creamy caramel flavor stood out in this beer. Easy on the palate a winter warmer beer.

20100219 500ml bottle from State Line. Dark brown with creamy, lasting, soft tan head. Caramel and earthy aromas, sweet cocoa, prune juice. Nice body, soft, creamy, almost whipped, with a light dusty dryness that creeps in at the finish but lingers somewhat. Flavor adds Nutella-like chocolate and toasty nut notes, not at all sweet, nice light fruity yeast notes, tobacco. Another nicely done beer from these guys. Sure wish they weren’t all ten bucks or more per bottle.

Bottle at RBESG Grand Tasting 05. Hoppy, pond water smell. Brown beer. Hoppy, tart, and whilst flat, it does have a crispness to the flavour too.
