COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Very dark pour, with a thick mocha head. Looks like a porter. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, and alcohol, and a tiny bit of hops. Flavour is thick, and loaded with roasted malt, and some caramel, but ends with a big alcohol wallop. A definitive sipper.

Bottled as the Winter Ale. Pours a nearly opaque black with a thin, slightly tan head. Looks more like a heavy porter than an Imperial stout or American Strong Ale but it may take a trained eye to tell. Smells of dark roasted malts, nuts, licorice and chocolate. Flavor is similar, heavy on the chocolate and coffee with hints of toasted nuts on the back end. Finish is a balanced bitterness of hops and roasted coffee but also a little watery and drinkable. As always with the Nogne-O beers there is something murky and dangerous lurking in the nose and flavor. Must be that scary Grimstad water. Overall, very drinkable for a beer with 8.5% alcohol.

A dark brown, almost black colored beer. It has a thick foamy beige head. The aroma of dark malts, chocolate with coffee. There are dark fruits. The taste of smoked malt with chocolate, some coffee with fruits. It is nice bitter. Some spices with notes of alcohol. The aftertaste is dark bitter with hints of sweet.

Bottle at HDG. Deep dark brown in color with a nice reddish brown head that leaves a nice lacing. Chocolatety dark fruity aroma. Plums, raisins and fig notes. Malty and chocolate flavor. Medium bodied. Well balanced beer. Smooth tasting. Finish is chocolatey. Very nice beer.

Dense black, thick clingy kahaki head. Nose was nice with soft tones of chocolate cream, swirls of cinnamon coffee, and hints of cherry and raisin. Faints notes of fruitcake emerge upon further warming. Balanced flavors throughout with notes of soft roasted chocolate, hints of spiced dark fruit and coffee. It rounds out nicely with a late hop tone that keeps the malt well in check. Medium bodied with a fluffy mouthfeel, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. Well done and quite drikable be it winter, summer, whatever...

Pours a three finger thick brown head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Totally black color. Light carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Roasted coffee nose. Flavor is roasted chocolate, some sweetness but a baker’s chocolate finish. The high ABV is hidden. I wouldn’t call this a Strong Ale, more like a porter on steroids. $7.00 for a 22oz bottle from Tully’s Beer and Wine Wells, ME.
