COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Bottle. Light caramel aroma. Deep chestnut color with an off white head. Full body with a light sour or bitter palate. Very light spicy notes. Plain.

Fab, man, fab! Really interesting play on characteristics. Poured with a big foamy frothy tan head with lots a lace. Very dark brown. Sweet yet dry; luscious yet stark, and bittersweet even so. Lots of bitter chocolate, coffee, dark ripe fruit, heavy hops. Lots going on here. Superb beer. Long finish. Not a session beer. But that’s ok.

Very nice looking dark brown with a tan head. The aroma has a lot of caramel sweetness and a bit of smoke. The flavor is similar with a nice smokiness to it. Creamy mouth feel and a lingering after taste.

Bottle: Batch 366: Nice brown foamy head on top of an almost black beer. Smell liquorice, strawberry, hint of roasted malts, hint of yeast, light chocolate, rubber, spices, some dried dark fruits, raisin and a hint of alcohol. Taste liquorice, spices, little warmth of alcohol, light roasted malts, hint of caramel, light bitter and hint of some dark sweets, mostly liquorice.  Light grassy lighter liquorice smooth bitter aftertaste.  Low carbo and almost silky mouthfeel. Interesting brew.

In bottle at The BrewDog Bar, Edinburgh. A black beer with a thick, light tan head. Aroma of Ovaltine, coffee, caramel and chocolate. Quite smoky overall with flavours of chocolate and caramel again. Lingering tar and smoke with an oily mouth-feel and mild carbonation. OK, surprisingly smoky.

Bottle Poured a dark red/brown body with hugh head. Aroma was nutty, malty with some milk chocolate being present. Flavor was smooth with a nice sweet malt, chocolate taste. Alcohol barely detected. Good ale.

Bottle from about a year ago - Darker brown color with a nice tan head. Aroma is dominated by cocoa, nut, and some floral hops. Flavor is an interesting earthy-cocoa-nut mix with some nice hop remnants. Nice mouthfeel. Not sure why I waited so long on this one, but I should seek out a fresher bottle.

Dark chocolate and spice notes with hints of caramel as well. The color is a darkish mud color with virtually no foam.
