COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Bottle. Poured black with a creamy tan head that settled to a ring. Big milk chocolate aroma. The flavor found chocolate, coffee, and hints of spice and light roast. Medium to full body, creamy texture, and a light roast aftertaste.

Pours deep black with thin tan head. Wonderful nose of dark chocolate, vanilla and alcohol. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, and a touch of smoke. Very nice.

Aroma has heavy emphasis on caramel cake, with slight hints of chocolate and vanilla, attractive and promising, taste is a slight letdown thinner then I would expect, caramel soft tones with some toffee and vanilla and a chocolate bitter finish. Still an excellent brew, thanks again Kingpin

Bottle, Winter Ale. Aroma of sweet malt, milky chocolate, mild roasted notes, some dextrose. Flavor overpowered by unpleasant, bitter coffee grinds on a sweetish malt base. Some nice coffee bitterness in there too, but goes over the edge and is not balanced by anything interesting. A letdown from Nogne O.

500ml. bottle: This one had the "Winter Ale" name on the label. This beer pours a dark, murky opaque brown color. There was a bit of a dark tan head on mine. It subsides quickly and leaves some lacing. Nice nose to this one. Chocolate, caramel, raisins, hints of coffee and other fruits. What a full rounded flavor. Chocolate and coffee up front, but very well balanced with the caramel malts. Very tasty and easy to drink. You have no idea that this is 8.5%.

"God Jul" courtesy of Degarth. Bottled 020906. Best by 020910. Black/dark brown, brown edges, 2cm frothy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, subtle bitter, resinous hops, subtle yet pungent spice, alcohol warmth. Hops nearly disappear in the flavor, roasty malt and spices with some light alcohol. Good, but not much depth. Medium body, balanced. Decent.

Bottle. Dark brown pour. Heavy complex aroma: chocolate, caramel and nutty malts, hops, slight alcohol. Flavor is smoother than aroma would suggest, vanilla, oak, spices, malty chocolate, slight hop presence.
