COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Bottle @ RBESG2005. Some roastyness in the nose, quite spicy. Very dark brown body, small tan head. Fruity flavor, richly spiced, mainly cinnamon and likewise.

(16.9oz bottle courtesy of Walter. Thank you!). Pours nearly black with khaki head. Aroma of wood, some smoke, spruce, and dark chocolate. Taste is sweet with some roasty notes and bitterness. Full bodied with creamy/oily texture. Finish is bitter. A very nice Chirstmas beer.

Bottle (labeled "Winter Ale"). Pored a deep dark black-brown with a disappearing cream head. The dark color was surprising for a Christmas Ale (not as much if you read the description). Nose is cinnamon, chocolate, caramel, and hops. Wonderful smell as your nose pages through the tones. Flavors of caramel and malts. Mouth is a little thin and flat. Over all an above average holiday beer. Perhaps the flavors would of been a little better fresher.

50 cl bottle, Fargo, ND, USA via Chicago. Deep opaque mahogany colour, thick illustrious head like a carpet on top of the liquid. Coffee, bitter chocolate and ink aroma, with caramel coming through on the first sip. Substantial sugar cane followed by liqorice, oak and a satisfying alcohol burn at the end.

UPDATED: AUG 28, 2009 Coca Cola appearance with thin brown head. Aroma is roasty with a hint of caramel covered beef jerky. Taste is same with greater emphasis on roasty. Carbonation is fine and brisk. Not what I expected, but it’s not bad, either. $8/500ml

A large, frothy, tan head rests upon a cola-black body. Dense aroma is chock-full of sweet stuffs; chocolate, light roast coffee, raisins, dates brown sugar and red grapes. Some leather, pine and cedar fill in the remaining aromatic spaces. The flavour is mostly a direct translation of the aroma with a little more acidic sharpness than was indicated. But, overall, very much a big, lightly roasty, hoppy porter to my taste buds. Very rich, but with plenty of balance between hop and roast bitterness. Smooth texture, medium-full body and soft carbonation.

Vintage 2 years old. Fantastic nice dark looking beer with lots of typical centennial notes in combination with sweet Christmas flavor such as caramel, dark fruit and very good hop aroma and flavor. Could drink a lot more of this beer. Very good!
