COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Brown body, thick creamy beige head; Quite big nose but muddy and unclear; Very soft carbonation in soft textured body, a little bitter and a little salty; Medium long bitter muddy finish, again very unclear, warm malty chocolate-like aromas with a very little hop behind. NOT my kind of beer.

pours a jet foamy black with a medium size foamy khaki head, some lacing too. smell is of dark fruit, cocoa, spice, and a whiff of caramel. taste is smooth, chocolate, some spice, coffee, some caramel, a little licorice, sweetness is hiding in the back. overall very stoutish

Very dark brown, nearly black - slight head, tan in color, around the sides of the glass. Deliciously dry, bitter, coffee and cocoa-filled aroma. The flavor is milky-sweet, the lactose is very pleasant to balance out the bitterness. Ever so slight astringency. Pleasant hoppiness is an interesting mix with the roastiness, woodiness and vanilla.

Beer pours dark brown with a tan colored head that is somewhat retained. Aroma is BIG and malty with roasted nuts, also some milk chocolate and a touch of licorice. Flavors of roasted malt with some real nice chocolate flavor, lots of nuttiness and a bit of strong coffee in the finish. This is a really enjoyable beer. I hope the other Nogne are as good.

25oz Winter Ale bottle. Poured a deep brown, nearly opaque color with a frothy, cascading tan head. Molasses hits you right in the nose with some roasted malt, earthy spice, and cocoa as well. Smooth taste of molasses, but blended nicely with the caramel and chocolate malt. The hops give it a porter-like balance, as well as a spiced quality. A nice smooth winter warmer.

A belgian imperial stout? Lots of candi sugar and licorice topped with a long alcholic finish. Quite rich but a bit one dimensional. Another very good nogne that just doesn’t quite make the outstanding mark. Seems to be a trait from these guys.

2007 bottle from WLV. Dark brown color with medium beige head. Wonderful roasty sweet malt aroma with bourbon-like notes such as vanilla and alc, also dark fruit and chocolate. Flavor is very roasty, dark fruit, yeast spiciness, medium sweet, very nice. Full body with creamy carbonation. One of the better winter seasonals.
