Aroma 3, Appearance 4, Taste 3, Palate 2. Total score 1,6
Pours dark. Some red transparency on the edges. Aroma is over ripe wine, earth, alcohol. Taste. Sour sweet alcoholic. Liqorice aftertaste. Full bodied, syrupy and flat.
Surprisingly unpleasant. I’m usually more than happy with the Nøgne Ø products. Obviously this bottle was off (although it still has more than two years to go acc to Best before date).
It even made me lose appetite for more beer tasting - this evening at least. Left my glass nearly full!

Appearance: Pours a dark black brown, with red head.
Aroma: Aroma is of roasty malt, sweet.
Taste: A nice balance of roastyness, some light bitterness, not too much sweetness.
Palate:Medium body, smooth.
Summary: I don’t know why this an "American Strong Ale", but it is really roasty, with a hint of sweetness, and enjoyable in winter.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 MikeKeller (404) - Kemi Rock City, FINLAND - JAN 5, 2011
Bottled, batch nr. 453, BBE 130914. Dark brown beer with tall but fading beige head. Very enjoyable smooth and soft beer. Roasty malts, chocolate and bitterness in the taste. Quality stuff.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 DeputyAndy (384) - Ambler, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 17, 2009
Pours a coffee black with minimal, off white head. Nose smells like a spiced stout with notes of cinnamin and chocolate. Very smooth taste. Flavors of stout, mild seasonal spices, and chocolate come through in a nice blend. Slightly alcoholly but pleasant. Very nice beer.

Pours pitch black colour with large, beige foamy head. Aroma of ash, dry chocolate, coffee notes, mild spices, dark malts, some dark dried fruits and topacco notes. Flavour of ash dry chocolate, coffee, very distant notes of liquorice, dark malts, caramel, mild dark fruit notes, distant spices and wood. Not as rich with flavour as it was fresh but still very smooth and warming chocolaty brew. Some porter elements on the palate, very dry finish. I wish I could have this regularly.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jesperhammer (1294) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - NOV 4, 2011
03-NOV-2011, draft @Mikkeller on ØJ dag.
Black with low beige head.
First aroma is smoke.
Had this several times before and do not remember the smoke. Really nice roasted and dry with that smokey element. Not like a smoked but still with a smoked element.
Creamy, smooth with quite high carbonation.
Really a fine beast.
