COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

2007 50 cl bottle from Liquid Solutions - Pours a clear brown color with a large three finger thick light tan head. Nice stringy lacing. Smells like a nice Porter. Aroma is a lightly roasted malt, light chocolate, and earthy hops. Flavor is much of the same. Alcohol is noticeable in the finish and slightly dry. Medium body. A good beer.

(Bottle 50 cl) Vintage 2004. Pours a hazy, dark brown with a small, beige head that dissipates in no time. Aroma of dried fruit and vintage port. Quite full-bodied, a little low in carbonation with sweetish, roasted malt, dried and overripe fruit, vanilla and port accents and a whiff of coffee. Dry, lightly hoppy finish. Excellent - this really has aged gracefully. 240907

Fynske Øldage 2005, Odense. Dark brown with a nice head. The flavour is sweet with notes of roasted malt, caramel, dark fruits and a hint of clove. It has a nice bitterness. The alcohol is well hidden, and that is a potential danger - at least when beer tastes this well! It’s almost like a Barley Wine.

500ml bottle. Dark brown body with a light brown head. Nice roasted malt aroma. Sweet warming mouths feel with chocolate, coffe and some spices and bitterness. Long warming, roasted aftertaste. Yet another well-balanced masterpiece from Nøgne Ø. This is hopefully a new definition of what a Norwegian Christmas beer could be, honest I’m getting a bit tired of every brewery struggling to copy each other’s wimpy version of a dark Vienna.

Bottle (.5L) BB 2008, thanks to sk8viking once again! Clear deep cherrywood pour with a light dusting of caramel-colored head. Alcohol actually hits the nose first, and is followed by a nice warming array of rich chocolate, raisins, dates, and northwest US hops. Full and tasty mouthfeel.. with lots of roasted malts and an excellent hop balance. Dark chocolate was the foremost flavor, with some lighter citrus hops and some light spices. Nicely warming, yet no explicit alcohol presence... nicely done!
