COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Rich. Deep caramel tones. Doesn’t taste like most American Strongs. Instead, it has a bit of that Great Divide Hibernation strong ale taste. Very nice.

Bottle, labeled ’Winter Ale’. Pours a very dark brown, practically black, with a large mostly-lasting tan head -- nice! Slightly mild aroma of caramel malt, a little roasty, with chocolate, some sweetness and a hint of alcohol. Flavour of caramel malt, nuts, chocolate and a good amount of hops. Tastes better and better the further you get through it and it warms. Alcohol’s well hidden. Medium bodied. What a great beer, Nogne haven’t disappointed me yet.

Mahogony color; small, lingering head. Smoke and rich malt aroma. Rich roasted dark malt flavor, with notes of smoke, oak, molassas, clove, spice, pepper, espresso, walnuts, & bitter chocolate. Not overly sweet or smooth...a tad rough and rowdy but tasty.

(16.9oz bottle courtesy of Walter. Thank you!). Pours nearly black with khaki head. Aroma of wood, some smoke, spruce, and dark chocolate. Taste is sweet with some roasty notes and bitterness. Full bodied with creamy/oily texture. Finish is bitter. A very nice Chirstmas beer.

Nogne O Winter Ale Pours deep brown with a medium creamy head and decent retention. Reddish tinge around the edge of the glass. Aroma is largely reminiscent of an aged barley wine, with notes of caramel and sweet teriyaki. Flavor is stoutish with a nutty, toasty, smokey character. Dry hoppy finish. Good brew, and good value on sale.

UPDATED: JAN 13, 2012 50cl bottle. Pours opaque black with a beautiful beige/cream head. There are nice steady fine bubbles. The nose has chocolate and dried fruits (maybe sultanas). The taste has dark chocolate, liquorice, prunes in alcohol and then a digestive biscuit and nutmeg finish. The palate is medium to large in structure, there is a creamy texture and a dry bitter finish.

Darkest brown with a fluffy tan head, treacle nose. Quite a lot of marmitey yeast umamai too. Fairly sweet with a rich maltiness but not cloying or alcoholic for its ABV, with just the hint of tropical fruit from those centenial hops. A true winter warmer.

A dark black beer with a dark beige head. Aromas of coffee, caramel, chocolate, smoke. Tastes of chocolate, caramel, hint of spices and a touch of smokiness.
