COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

2007 bottle Pours black with beige head. Aroma is malty, hoppy with some faint notes of spices. Taste has a lot of roastiness, chocolate-caramel malts. Spices are very subtle. Lightly hoppy. Superb beer, very drinkable.

Thanks to my brother for bringing this one to me from Lafayette. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is roasted malt with some chocolate. You also get some alcohol. Flavor is a lot of smoky dark fruit as well as some roasted malt. Medium mouthfeel and high drinkability.

Pours a fluffy, tan head that laces with a dark brown body. Aromas of roasted malt, molasses, herbal, hint of smoke. Flavors of roasted malt, molasses, mint, sage, slightly spicy, some smokiness. Finish is dry, lasting dark flavors.

Pretty damn good but a little weird. Pours dark brown. Notes of Christmas, pine needles, liquorish, anise, potpourri, big malt, and some crazy hops. This is pretty much unlike any beer that I’ve ever had. I like it. Really would like to try it again. Expensiive though.

Serving: 500 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a very dark brown with a dense tan head. The nose is potent with notes of spruce and fruitcake. The flavor is a nice mix of hops and malt with pine, spruce, bread, fruitcake, and winter spices all mixing together. Medium to rich in body with softer than average carbonation leading to a medium to long, spiced finish. A quality winter brew.

500 ml bottle purchased a year ago at Holiday Wine Cellar ($7.99). Pours such a dark brown-red color as to almost appear black. Almost three fingers of thick frothy foam has good retention. It’s a nice looking beer. Aroma of roasted malts (leather, smoke), caramel, light spice, but not much of the promised America C-hops to be found (perhaps due to the aging?). Flavor has quite a bit of smoke along with rich toffee, leather, dry spice, and a bit of pine but otherwise not much in the hops department. Finishes with a nice rich roastiness. Makes for a very nice winter warmer. (644, 442)

Almost has the appearance of a stout with a dark brown body and tan head that leaves nice lacing. Aromas and flavors of burnt caramel, dark chocolate and some coffee. Creamy mouthfeel and bitter finish. Very good beer that masks the alcohol well.

Bottle pours dark and opaque with dense, beige colored head. The aroma smells of dark chocolate, mixed nuts, cigar ash, and dark fruit. The chocolate is extremely present in the flavor, also showing notes of cola and cinnamon. The overall mouthfeel is slick and oily with a sweet approach and slightly bitter finish. Good beer, anytime of the year!
