COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

500cl - "Winter Ale" - Well I didn’t give this one enough time to settle down after my trip to the store so it gushed on me and I lost a good portion of it. Aroma is roasted chocolate malt, caramel and molasses followed by subtle hops and a touch of spice. Pours dark brown with a big brown head (see above) and good lacing. Flavor matches aroma. Palate is roasty and creamy. A unique and tasty brew.

This dark brown ale poured with a fluffy brown head that lasted a while. There is a pleasant chocolate malt aroma. There is a hearty caramel malt flavor with nice balancing hops. Very tasty.

Deep clear crimson with a creamy brown head. Aroma of spicy hops (must be the boiled chinook), coffee, toffee and some plummy fruits. Full body with a great smooth carbonation. Flavour is very hoppy, almost tastes like cascade hops, otherwise there is a great mocha flavour and some fruity esters. Warming malty finish, suprisingly lacking the hoppiness in the aroma. Very nice but too expensive to buy all the time.

Bottle from South Bay Drugs: After cracking the cap off the bottle, there was an immediate gush of gaseous vapor and a steady flow of foam that made me react fast to pour into my glass and save the beer. Appearance is a dark blackish brown that is almost completely opaque while the foam creates a thick cushion of a pillow like head. The aroma is subtle with the closest resemblance to chocolate coated raisins and also too fig such as that in a fig Newton. Texture comes across as soapy because of the amount of foamy bubbles and this is even after I let the head simmer down to a layer of film covering, but I should also mention the texture is a bit milky since it a thick beer. Flavors are simple and don’t over power the taste buds and consist of lightly roasted malts, cocoa powder, cocoa butter and minor tasting of bitter hops that hide in the faint background, but become more apparent in the finish.

Bottle at home. Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma moderate/heavy malty (cloves, chocolate, roasted). Flavor moderate sweet. Medium/full body.

12/12/11/12/12/12

ginger, sea salt, chocolate, carmel, and smoke in the aroma. love the smoke. flavor is smokey, carmelly, spicey like nutmeg and gingerbread. i love this beer, it’s perfect for wintery christmassy times when you’re not in the mood for eggnog. and did i mention i love the smokeyness? too little had for my appreciation of the appearance.

Dark red ale with great viscous lacing and a nice initial head. Very full and complex aromoa mostly of spice, malt, alcohol, and dark bitter chocolate. Flavor is malty toffee sweet the spicy, and of bitters like in a good Manhattan. Really well put together.
