Bottled. Dark brown, almost black colour with a creany light brown head. Roasty malty aroma of nuts, chocolate and yeast with piney undertone. Full flavour of chocolate, nuts, anise, yeast and toasted malts with a long bitter aftertaste of dark chocolate, grass and pine.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 drewbeerme (3262) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 1, 2007
500ml, pours dark brown with tannish white head. nose is smokey, bakers chocolate, and stale malt. taste has a healthy amount of dry bakers chocolate, oak, vanilla, dark berries, and licorice. palate is smooth and creamy but a tad watery with no alcohol. a solid beer that’s tasty and easy to drink. i vote for this to be a sweet stout.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 oh6gdx (15510) - Vasa, FINLAND - NOV 3, 2006
Bottled. Pitch black colour, big brown head. Aroma is caramel, spices with slightly roasted malts and alcoholic notes. Flavour is roasted malts with some caramel and licorace. Spices become present after the roastiness and caramel vanishes. Pleasant and smooth, but it does feel "quite" standard compared to a few of the other Xmas theme beers from Nøgne Ø. Hides the alcohol very well.

Bottle consumed on Sunday Ocotber 21st, the day the Red Sox beat the Indians 11-2 to win the American League and advance to the world series. Nose is chocolate, vanilla, a little smoke. Flavor is strong with more vanilla, molasses, and some dark fruits with a warm finish. Unique winter ale.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20 rsmeds (228) - Turku, FINLAND - JAN 10, 2007
Bottle, brewed Sep 24, 2006, rated xmas eve, 2006.
Hazy, very dark brown -- nearly opaque -- with a thick, creamy yellow head. A real looker, this one!
Dry, heavily roasted chocolaty aroma with not so subtle hints of hop and yeast, and a faint sweetness in the background.
Very dry, heavily roasted malt aroma with a hoppy, alcoholic aftertaste.
Very creamy mouthfeel, full body, and moderate carbonation.
Lovely porterlike thing, a bit dry in the long run, but perfect after a heavy christmas dinner. Lots of yeast sediment in bottom of bottle. Wouldn’t believe it’s 8,5abv.

Rich chocolate and coffee aroma, dark malts and roasted barley. Pour very dark brown almost black, with a tan head. Strong hop flavor which surprises me, molasses, chocolate malts, sweet, with hints of pine resin from the hops. Pretty good winter beer! Even though i’m in florida and its over 90 degrees.

I very much enjoyed this winter ale from Nogne, and would not hesitate to recommend. Its flavor is not the most complicated beer flavor in the world, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good!
This beer poured an opaque black with lots of very sticky head. Aroma was a nice roastiness...potent and uncomplicated. Flavor was roasty with some bourbon-ness. Mouthfeel was a bit viscous and very pleasant.
I heartily enjoyed this beer, and would definitely recommend.
