COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the US this is called "Winter Ale".

A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer – just the way we think a Christmas beer should be.

Recommended serving temperature 12°C/53°F. Great with cheese or nuts. Ingredients: Lager, Munich, caramel, black, and chocolate malt; Chinook, Columbus, and Centennial hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

19°P, 30 IBU, 8.5 % ABV.

Some mild pine hoppiness with a semisweet chocolate, kind of smoked maplewood, and lightly ashy aroma. Flavors are similar, semisweet, mild bitterness in the finish, a bit of a sea salty closing note, nice sticky mouthfeel, excellent beer with a year of age on it. This is the best bottle of it I’ve had, but it’s quite awesome.

Bottle. Pours a hazy brown looking almost black in the glass. Medium dark tan head. Aroma of leather, burnt sugar, roasted malts and chocolate. Taste is abit sweet but still pretty balanced. Dark fruits, dark chocolate, a whiff of alcohol and a light bitter finish. Close to full bodied with avg co2 levels.

(Nøgne Ø God Jul) Bottle 500 ml at home, served into a snifter. ABV 8.5% dark brown colour on the body, leaving some light passing through it and getting red ruby hues because of it. Small and thin beige head with average retention, leaving light lacing on the glass. Aroma of plums mainly, more dark fruits, spices, molasses. Sweet taste, light caramel, plums, raisins, spices, stewed red fruits, marmalade, light roasted malts on the finish, and some bitterness there with good duration. Medium thin body, average carbonation. Very good, tasty winter beer.

Pours a dark brown with khaki colored head, almost looks like a stout. Alcohol on the nose, pretty strong, some roasted malts as well; follows onto the palate. It’s only 8.5%, but it smells like it should be 15%. Pretty boozy on the flavor too.
