COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Only the 2008 vintage is stored here. There’s separate listings for older vintages. They are stamped with bottling date, which should be used to determine the correct vintage. Also, the 2008 vintage has a different label than the previous editions, with Easter Island statues visible. (vintage 2009 is the same recipe as 2008, and the beer hasn’t been brewed in 2010.)

50 cl bottle @ hotel room, Amsterdam. Rated on 18.07.2009
Aroma is quite hoppy with floral notes, some nettles and sweetish malt. Flavour is somewhat hoppy with nettles, sweetish malt, caramel, some toffee, floral notes, hints of fruits and ash. The strong hoppiness makes this feel a bit watery. Not the most typical Belgian strong but I like it!

Bottle (vintage 2008): Hazy, chestnut-amber coloured, sugary, malty and slightly alcoholic nose, distinctive hoppy background; moderate sweet-bitter flavour medium bodied, a bit tart; hops and toasted malt in the mainly sweet finish. Too sweet for me…

UPDATED: JUL 8, 2012 Aroma has herbs and citrus and caramel malts. Yeast is belgian like to me. Hazy brown with really big beige frothy head. Crisp palate. Lively carbonation. Creamy texture. Medium bodied. Taste has herbs and spices. Overall lots of flavors and nuances.

bottle 500ml heavily carbonated, color of dense copper. Taste of raisin, yeast and malty caramel. Not even close best of Nøgne, but great alternative on Easter.

Perhaps my expectations were too high because this is Nøgne Ø. It started out as a little disappinting, and just a little better than Midtfyn Påskebryg. But it gets better. It grows as you drink :-) ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Shared 0,5 l bottle at local tasting. Gusher. Clear hazelnut body with a light brown film. Spicy candy, dried fruits and malty notes on the nose. Full bodied and smooth to drink with a syrupy texture. Sweet with notes of tobacco and wood.

25/06/2011 Brasserie 4:20 (tap). Bevuta al Nøgne Ø Beer Festival. Color arancia, intenso e lievemente torbido, buona schiuma biancastra poco persistente. Aroma intenso di malto caramellato, con lievi note speziate e luppolate. Sensazioni confermate in bocca, con in più una nota acidula nel finale. Corpo medio, carbonazione abbondante. Un po’ anonima e deludente. Tra le peggiori birre della serata.

In short: A yeasty and not-too-clean Belgian amber Ale. Just ok
How: Bottle 500ml. Consumed when exactly halfway in its 5 year lifespan (2.5 year before expiration date)
The look: Cloudy burnt orange body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose is very much dominated by yeast esters of all kinds (fruity, spicy, phenols, etc.) and toasted malts. Taste is caramel over dried salad croutons, spices, dust, juicy ripe red fruits (even strawberries), some red ruby grapefruit, earth. Not very clean. Overall this was here and there, not bad, not really fun either. Not a great Easter beer, I didn’t like the beer but I love Easter, I’m the Mike Tyson of biting the ears off of chocolate bunnies..

Bottle thanks to Boutip. Beautiful deep copper with decent head for the age. Menthol aroma, molasses, sherry-like oxidation without being overpronunced. Flavor: Red fruits, spices, yeast, dust, quite tart. Palate: Full bodied and decent carbonation. Overal: Quite good for a 3 year old beer.

Reddish brown colour, almost no head. Malty sweet aroma, caramel, some yeast. Flavour quite sweet, caramel, malts, some dried fruits. Sweet finish.
