COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
6 % alc/vol, 32 IBU, is a Rauch Beer lager brewed in the true Bamberg tradition. Smooth, assertive and well balanced. This beer was the winning recipe from the Norwegian homebrewer’s championship in 2011. We appreciate the fact that Erlann Eldorsen came to brew with us! Ingredients: Pilsnermalt, peated malt, crystal malt, Munich malt, hallertau and Tettnang hops, German lager yeast and Grimstad water.

Bottle from Seaford Bev? Dark brown with lasting tan head and lace. Aroma of peat caramel and a hint of cinnamon. Burnt caramel with earty peaty smoke and somewhat assertive smoky grassy bitter finish. Lingering grassy earthy smoke. Not sure why this isn’t blowing me away, might be the slightly excessive smoky burnt bitterness or the excessively smoky earthy aftertaste. Nevertheless, very good.

Opaque black - brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Nose of mild malt cream and a whisper of smoke. Smooth palate, a little soft. Quite a candy fruit start balanced by the mellow smoke that integrates well. Finishes soft and semi dry with a mellow smoke aftertaste. Nice smoky beer.

Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of smoke, peat, and roasted malts. Flavor was smokey with roasted malts, charred wood, chocolate and had a bit of caramel with a smokey dry finish.

Bottle, provided by Travlr while at Churchkey. Thanks Gene! Poured a dark brown color, with a small dark tan head. Aroma was some nice roasted notes, with some dark malts. Flavor was some light bitter coffee notes, chocolate. Smoke isn’t too overpowering, pretty enjoyable.

A dark brown lager coevered by a healthy and lasting pale beige head. Leathery, barkey smoke is heavily intense, up there with Schlenkerla in terms of smoke intensity yet different with its touch of earthy moisty peat. Richer than many a Franconian examples though, or at least more on the Bock than Marzen side of the spectrum, procuring generous nutty and toasty nuances. The moderate residual sugars provide desserty hints like chocolate and vanilla, but all held at bay by an effective carbonation and tight spicy, leafy hoppiness of noble lineage. The finish is lovely, offering an impressive dry-out effect, carbonation reaching its climax and hop flavours slicing through the sugars with impeccable efficiency while smoke flavours are never forgotten and peak right up in the aftertaste. This is for smokeheads only, indeed the smoke is intense enough that you suspect it hides quite a few intricacies, but a real pleasure for those enlighted brothers of mine.

Bottle. Rich smoked malt, woody, earthy peat, fruity caramel aroma. Deep mahogany with a small beige head. Woody and meaty smoked malt flavor with a little bit of fruit. Medium body, light carbonation, easy drinking. Nice and smoky, but not so much that it tips over into acrid.

Bottle and enjoyed in an Imperial Pint glass: Rich mahogany hue with a lasting frothy off white head and very good lacing. The aroma has light to moderate smoked malt, some caramel and biscuity malt, hint of grassy hops and a lager yeast ester. The taste is quite nice, not overpowering as the smoke complements the sweet malts. The light touch of noble hop bittering adds some depth. The mouth feel is properly carbonated and as a woody dryness on the finish. I like this a lot. Well done indeed.

Tasted from the bottle, on 28/11/2012. Pours of dark brown, almost black, with a lovely huge creamy foam. Aroma is intense, loads of wood and smokiness, ashy and slightly iodine. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, proper carbonated. Taste is immediately acidic, only after few seconds switching to ashy/woody/earthy tones. Recommended. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
