COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
6 % alc/vol, 32 IBU, is a Rauch Beer lager brewed in the true Bamberg tradition. Smooth, assertive and well balanced. This beer was the winning recipe from the Norwegian homebrewer’s championship in 2011. We appreciate the fact that Erlann Eldorsen came to brew with us! Ingredients: Pilsnermalt, peated malt, crystal malt, Munich malt, hallertau and Tettnang hops, German lager yeast and Grimstad water.

Aroma of smoke, coal, roasted malts and some leather. Palate is medium with a slick palate. Very smokey taste, but a nice balance also. A very Nice beer from Nøgne Ø.

Good brew from Nogne. Deep reddish brown pour with a medium filmy head. Nose is nice and Bamber-y in just the way I was hoping for. Very smooth body, almost heavy enough to pass for a porter. Taste is a bit different than the nose, with slight more char and even a touch of juniper perhaps? Like one of those traditional ale experiments these and other Scandinavian brewers put out in a sense. But it certainly tilts more towards a traditional rauch and, while it won’t displace Aecht, it was better than average.

phaleslu (5869) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 4, 2012
500 ml bottle from The Wine and Cheese Place. Pours a deep, dark, opaque brown with a finger of beige head that leaves some lace. Aroma of smoked malts, tobacco, roast, and powdery chocolate. The flavor is smokier, but still fairly mild and has some dark fruits. Medium-bodied, with soft carbonation and a smoky, roasty mouthfeel. Not a bad smoked ale.

Milder Beginn mit nur leichter Rauchigkeit. Erfrischend, zu trocken. Auch im Mittelteil zu mild, die Raucharomen sind hier ehr noch geringer. Dunkelmalziger Abgang. Schade! 10/9/8/8/10/8

Bottle from Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours black with a thin beige head and a very smoky treacle aroma. There is a charcoal and dark molasses flavor that sticks to the palate. A bit too smoky for me, otherswise not bad.

Black pour with creamy tan head. Faintly roasted malts and smoky nose. Super light and dry body. Lingering but faint smokiness. Clean and slightly smoky finish

Pours black, with the slightest red tint and a thin dark tan head. Scent is rich, sweet malts, charcoal, dark fruit, light smoke and peat. Taste is semi-sweet, slight caramel, more fruit, a little chocolate..... Not overly smoky, just a bit at the back of the throat. Quite good. Very smooth and slick. Dry. As a smoked, it’s pretty mild, but for overall taste, it’s quite excellent.

25/05/2012 Brasserie 4:20 (tap). Corpo medio, carbonazione corretta. Davvero molto buona.
