COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
6 % alc/vol, 32 IBU, is a Rauch Beer lager brewed in the true Bamberg tradition. Smooth, assertive and well balanced. This beer was the winning recipe from the Norwegian homebrewer’s championship in 2011. We appreciate the fact that Erlann Eldorsen came to brew with us! Ingredients: Pilsnermalt, peated malt, crystal malt, Munich malt, hallertau and Tettnang hops, German lager yeast and Grimstad water.

Tastes of malt, smoke, chocolate, slight smoked meat, roasting, and a hint of caramel. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Malt, hop, smoke, slight caramel finish is lightly dry.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet Bodø. I was very excited about this, since I was lucky enough to get a taste of the original before it was sent to the Norwegian homebrewers championship. In my opinion the original is better. The smoke flavor is kinder in this version, but still very present. A very good rauchbier.

berlinoise2go (604) - NORWAY - FEB 10, 2012
Bottle (50cl) from Vinmonopolet (Vika), Oslo. Clear, dark brown with a ruby hue. Half-inch light beige, fine-bubbled head that leaves a little bit of lacing. Aroma of smokey, roasted malt, fruit, soy sauce, cheese, licorice, cola. Taste is somewhat sweet upfront, then a dry, woody bitterness takes over, dominated by smoke and licorice. Very good balance overall. Long aftertaste that eventually turns a bit papery and vegetal. Medium body, soft/average carbonation. Mouthfeel is a little watery, but reasonable at this ABV.

500 ml bottle. Very dark brown. Seemingly clear. Small off-white head. Smokey aroma with german sausages and cow dung. Soft malty texture. Nice rounded malt flavours with a nice smokey note. Really well balanced, and a perfect example of a great rauchbier.

(Bottle) pours dark brown with red hints. Sand colored head. The aroma holds smoke, dry caramel, bread, cookies, herbs, earth and alcohol. Maybe a whisper of dried raisins and tart chocolate. The flavour is light sweet, light bitter and tiny acidic. Smoke, bread, light caramel, earth, herbs, grass and alcohol. The mouthfeel is clean, light watery and tiny tart with a light carbonation. Watery smoke and resinous wood on the finish. Light to medium bodied.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet, Vika. Dense tiny-bubbled brownish-blond head. Body is deep mahogny brown with good clarity. Initial aroma of sourish brown bread and faint cheese. Then a pleasant meaty smokiness take over. Taste is balanced sweet/dry malty. Meaty and woody smoke character. Discreetly hopped. Faint brown suger tones. Easy on the palate, smooth and silky. Sweet-accented rounded finish. Good stuff.
