Imperial DunkelWit from Nøgne Ø is an attempt to combine the best of many brewing cultures. Indeed we hope to please the Belgian ale partisan, the dark ale enthusiast, as well as those who love big ales with this one product. That is a tough ambition. At least we had fun brewing it...... Ingredients: Grimstad water, wheat, malted barley, coriander, orange peel, hops and yeast. 24*P, 25 IBU

650ml bottle purchased at Knightly Spirits in Orlando, Florida. Deep brown, thin lasting off-white head, light lacing. Aroma is lightly hoppy, light rye, some chocolate, light sweetness. Flavour is of berries, chocolate, spice, liquorice, some lavender. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation.
Finishes long, some spice, light alcohol.
It’s okay, noticeable alcohol, lots of spice. Needs more balance.

Craft Clerkenwell. Tuesday Horal Chugging Tasting! Hazy dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Light palate, smooth with light fine carbonation. Floral - violets and tangy flowers! Little tropical fruits underneath. Sweet sherbet candy. Light semi dry finish. Tasty - very floral sweet!

Awesome beautiful stongle belgian ale. No head at all what so ever, much better that 4th edition when ot comes to palate. Note of coffee and toffee on the aroma, with sweet Coffee and chocolate hints. No clwar taste of alcohol qt all. One of the top five beer I’ve had ever.

Bottle 1 pint 9 oz. Color is deep brown very thin head in a tulip. Aroma is thick Munich malts, orange peel, and wheat.

The flavor is herbal and fruity with large amounts of toffee and earthy malts. The flavor is sweet and sugary with the spice and herbal helping mildly with the balance. But still very sweet overall but the alcohol is covered nicely, so it does have some drinkable aspects.

At just on cool and into a snifter. Just shy of bright before the yeast goes in; a tawny mahogany in colour with weird, soda-pop carbonation and no head. Nose has a strong waft of banoffee pie and cheap moonshine amongst nuances of sherry, red wine vinegar, kecap manis, toffee and dark Belgian candi. Unusually minty on the palate. Big, brash, liqueurish body with the alcohol to boot. Sticky, sweet mint chocolate flavour dominates over touches of coriander, hay bales and twiggy bark, nail polish remover (?), booze, booze and more booze. Near freezing here in Oz now and this one warmed me right through. There is a rough woody, oaken note that melds all the flavours together. It is oddly addictive drinking, or is that just me getting drunk!? Not long; it seems to disappear after each sip but a touch of what seems like steviol resides on the tongue. Really, to sum up, this is one weird brew. Pulled it off? yes! Enjoyable? Enough! Do it again? Probably not! (50cL, BB 14/08/14, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

Dark brown body under a light tan head. Sweet malt aroma, some spice. The flavor is sweet without being cloying. Some spice. Estery.

Not sure what glass you would serve a Imperial Dunkelwit in so I chose my thistle. Mahogany with ruby highlight topped by an attractive head and lace. Lovely flowery and lightly spiced character on top of a bed of dark sweet bread sprinkled with brown sugar. Faint orange peel and malt chocolate too. Oh I would be remissed not to say something about the fleet birch syrup, and seemingly woody notes that gives a quick undertone of a quality birch beer. She is a keeper (and has been aged for close to two years).

Draft at Rattle n Hum. Pours deep amber with a thin off white head. Sweet fruity base, with spicy yeast, coriander, caramel malts, a spicy yeasty finish, and a hint of booze. Not bad.

Lots of coriander with great citrus flavor. Pours dark with good head and lacing. Comes together very nicely, a great mix of a weizenbock with extra coriander the German beer laws wouldn’t normally let fly. Finishes with light sweetness, full palate. Tap at Churchkey.
