Imperial DunkelWit from Nøgne Ø is an attempt to combine the best of many brewing cultures. Indeed we hope to please the Belgian ale partisan, the dark ale enthusiast, as well as those who love big ales with this one product. That is a tough ambition. At least we had fun brewing it...... Ingredients: Grimstad water, wheat, malted barley, coriander, orange peel, hops and yeast. 24*P, 25 IBU

Bottle 500ml. @ home.
Unclear medium to dark red brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, citrus - orange, coriander, licorice, moderate yeasty. Flavor is light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, licorice, spicy, hoppy, caramel, star anis. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Funny beer but not balanced IMO ! From tap at Ørsted Ølbar. Pours murky brown with no lasting head, it really looks terrible. Sweet, dark toffee and light hops fruity aroma. Light liqourice note in the flavour. Quite fruity, light bitter and dark caramelish flavoured. Quite young and somewhat unrefined in flavor profile. Cloying sticky sweetness building up into the finish. I dont get why this is at all released so young on tap.

Draft. A murky dark brown beer with a rim of off-white head. The aroma is very spicy - ginger and cloves, combined with strong notes of fruit - peaches and mango. The flavor is powerful with notes of alcohol, over ripe fruits, prunes, wood, licorice, and spices - coriander and cloves, leading to a dry, spicy, and alcoholic finish. Raw and unrefined.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours a clear reddish brown. Head is off-white but dissipates in no time. Aroma has loads of coriander and alcohol - smells like a cheap cologne. Body is only medium, has a little dried fruit, but coriander and lavender dominates on an amazingly boozy background. This really could be mistaken for a cheap perfume, one that wasn’t meant for consumption. 090210

Bottled. Ambery brown colour with a small off-white to pale beige head. Aroma is spices, some burnt wood, mild caramel and roasted malts. Flavour is a lot of spices, some caramel, mild roated notes as well as some sligh fudgelike sweetness. Alcohol is warming rather much as well. Not that balanced, but an interesting attempt.

Craft Clerkenwell. Tuesday Horal Chugging Tasting! Hazy dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Light palate, smooth with light fine carbonation. Floral - violets and tangy flowers! Little tropical fruits underneath. Sweet sherbet candy. Light semi dry finish. Tasty - very floral sweet!

Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is close to black. Aroma and taste are dominated by spices like anis, coriander and oranges. Good for sipping but too spiced up for a full bottle.

On tap at Patricks Pub. It pours a murky, brown body under a next to nothing off-white head. Wonderful aroma with sugary sweetness, some roasted malts, lots of nicely blended spices, lemon, alcohol, generic fruityness and an evident hoppy touch. Some yeast as well. Full-bodied, warming and both sweet and dry. Sugary sweet flavor balanced by bitterness, coriander and some other spices. Fruity, with lemon and some roasted notes. Lasting finish with coriander and bitterness. Rather dry, but with some white sugar. A wonderful beer, but I’m a bit disappointed with the aroma that after a minute or three gets really weak. Well, I’ll return to it anyway. Around the table the opinions differed very much. Some found it to be unfinished, some too warming, some tought it lacked coriander, some thought it had too much coriander. Well, I loved it. 090917
