COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Nothing is like celebrating your own milestones. This is a celebration of our 500th batch of ale. It was brewed with joy and splendor; the brewer wore a suit, and a TV station filmed the event. As a base for this ale, we have elected to play with numbers: 5 hops, 100 IBUs, 10% alcohol by volume. Indeed it is an Imperial India Pale Ale. Big and bold. Great for a celebration!

Hazy amber/orange color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of floral hops, caramel malt, & citrus; Flavor of sweet malt, caramel/toffee, pine hops, mango/pineapple, citrus (notably orange), and spice; Finish is slightly bitter; The alcohol is well hidden; Very nicely balanced; Overall, a bit on the sweet side - but I always enjoy their brews.

Stumbled across this wandering the fjords. An amazing beer that is definitely the best I’ve had here in Norway. Wonderful auburn color with sensual hoppy smells. The taste has a great malt and caramel flavor that lends to a great palate. Would even have this a a session beer.

Bottle. I think this is the one zinister provided at our little tasting at Dry Creek. Pours a dark amber with a tan head. Nose is of funk and malt, biscuit. Taste is also biscuit with sweet peaches. Mouthfeel is bitter. Not an American-style IIPA by any means and did not impress either.

Tap @ Galbraith’s (meaning this keg has traveled about as far as it can). Cloudy amber pour with a minimal white head leaving light lace. Nose of ripe fruit. Medium body and carbonation. Dark fruit, apricot, fig, soy, brown sugar and some tobacco. Not much in the way of hop aromas and bordering on a barleywine - not much in common with most IIPAs and so it doesn’t score well as one. Finish is bitter and umami with a tough of canned peach syrup. Not a bad ale, but this pint doesn’t resemble the other ratings so I suspect storage/shipping issues. Probably my least favorite Nøgne ale, but willing to try a fresher drop again.

Thanks to Aaron for sharing - very intense citrus aromas and flavors in this one - bright, citrusy, minty, piney hop character on a base of sweet toffee and caramel and fruity yeast character - lots of orange and spice, with a little bit of white wine notes from the Nelson hops - lingering sweet orange and caramel - well done.

Pour thanks to Aaron, out of 22 oz bottle. Aroma has notes of citrus, grapefruit, some slight grass and pine, with a nice caramel and toffee note in there, not overly complex but really smells good. Taste is lots of sweet citrus oil, lemon, orange, with some pine and grass, some toffee, caramel, with a slightly bitter finish. Good, lots of citrus, tasty and fairly full bodied.

50 cl bottle, #569: Brygget 06.12.10, BBE 06.12.13
Rather light aroma has hops and sweetish malt. Thick palate with maltiness. Hoppy flavour has sweet malt and resin. Very well balanced and brilliant DIPA with Nøgne Ø house flavour.

Bottle @ Dan’s house. Reddish orange appearance with an off white head. Light piney, earthy hoppy, grapefruit-tangerine citrusy nose. Nice grapefruit-tangerine-orange, lightly piney, earthy hoppy flavor. Delicious citrusy flavor. I’m loving it.

Draught at Brasserie 4:20 (Rome). I think it should be illegal for a beer this big to be this drinkable. I might have paid for it later, but it was a price worth paying.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2011 Bottled. Pours hazy amber with a large off-white head with fair lacings. Nose of fruits, pine, caramel and notes of yeast. Sweet flavour with caramel, pine, citrus and other fruits. Medium to full bodied, oily texture and average carbonation. Long bitter finish. Enjoyable.
