COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Nothing is like celebrating your own milestones. This is a celebration of our 500th batch of ale. It was brewed with joy and splendor; the brewer wore a suit, and a TV station filmed the event. As a base for this ale, we have elected to play with numbers: 5 hops, 100 IBUs, 10% alcohol by volume. Indeed it is an Imperial India Pale Ale. Big and bold. Great for a celebration!

Bottle - 500ml. Hazy amber body with a good off-white foamy/creamy head. Sharp, fresh hoppy aroma with melon and mango hints. Alcohol is very well hidden. Its robust hoppy taste carries fruity, woody, and yeasty notes Ends with a warming bitter finish. Awesome! Rating #2500.

My first taste of the Nøgne Ø Imperial IPA batch #500. This beer grew alot on me while warming up. My first sip of it was while it still was very cold, and I really didn’t like it that much, not an experienced IPA drinker, but I have tasted a few good ones. As it warmed up it got much better an all the flavours came together and made a really long lasting good after taste. Being my first review I’m not really sure on what I’m doing, but I think this is an average beer, not the best I ever had from Nøgne, but a good beer.

A - Pours a tawny dark brown with a thin kahki head that melts pretty quick. No lacing. S - Doughy yeast, heavy brown bread, toasted caramel malt, hints of citrus hops. T - Toasted caramel and toffee malts, bitter through the middle with light citrus and floral hop flavor. Very powerful yeast presence mixes with the dense barley overtaking most of the hop flavor. Finishes with a toasted bitterness. M - Thick chewy body, low to medium carbonation. Not your average DIPA. Hops are there but are crushed by a sturdy malt bill. Yeast really bullies things around as well. More of a barleywine. Serving type: bottle 07-29-2012

Bottle. Pinre and resin nose, caramel, chewy malts, cherry. Sweet, piny and resiny flavor, a bit estery, menthol, prickly. Soft and silky body, small, prickly carbonation. Too much pine for me.

Aroma of nutty chocolate. Appearance is cloudy brown with creamy 1 finger off white head. Head clings to glass all the way down. Taste of liquorice chocolate. Taste lingers with the delightful bitterness of good dark chocolate. Considering the strength which is usually difficult to get a balance in beers this is an excellent example of easy drinking with great flavour.

Bottle from Barley Wine, Copenhagen -. Hazy amber pour with a medium diminishing beige head. Very strong, deep citrus hoppy character, pine needles, grassy, sweet caramel malts. Great mouthfeel and boozy bitter finish to this. Seriously impressive stuff.

Keg @ George & Dragon, Barcelona 2013/5/21 An absolutely delicious DIPA with a body and alcohol taste that embarrases its ABV. Very rare fore to find a beer of this strength that I can enjoy. Full of flavour and aroma. Fantastic.
